I`ve gotten interested in Dick Dale songs on You Tube recently and was thinking about making a Strat with his gauge of strings using a MIM strat to be purchased for this project.I was thinking of something like a 50`s reissue in Surf Green,,or if I can find an Orange sparkle somewhere,,I`d try it.

Does anyone have any idea of what pickups he has in "The Beast" which is his 50s era Strat. Also does he have different tuning pegs to handle the large gauge strings?

From what I`ve read,,he uses strings from 60s to 14,the bottom 4 being wound.

I would like to do this just for fun on my part,,it won`t be exact but I`d like it close.
Thanks for any Help.

I had the same idea awhile back. I picked up a MIM Standard Strat (FSR) in Sunfire Orange, replaced the pickups with a set of Seymour Duncan SSL's for nice vintage (and versatile) tones, and added a pearloid pickguard.

The Custom Shop Dick Dale tribute Strat used CS 54's or 50's pickups, depending on which set of specs you read...

Anyway, here's my take on an inexpensive Dick Dale tribute Strat... His actual Strat is quite a bit different though -- rosewood neck, chartreuse metalflake, white pickguard, plus a lot of other things that I didn't try to replicate... And those strings he uses?... not for me -- I wanted to be able to play my guitar.. How he manages to play like he does with those strings I have no idea...
