I really have NO clue on this guitar but the price seems fair $749?
Is this a American Strat? It seems that this strat comes with a Guitar bag and not a case?
I would like to get one since they have 10 in stock but thinking that it might be a referb with the case since all the others have a hardshell case.............JT.

Okay - it's not a Billy Corgan Strat; it's a modded MIM Standard Strat with the pickups used on the old Corgan model and some other mods. I can't tell from the ebay ad if the store did a special run from Fender (an FSR) with these specs or if they just do the mods at their store. The price would be okay for an FSR, might be a bit high if they're doing the mods at the store.

The US Billy Corgan sig Strat is no longer produced and hasn't been for awhile. You might find a guitar shop here or there that has a New Old Stock in store, but it would be very rare. Your best bet is to search for a good condish used one.

You are basically getting a stoptail string-thru Strat in satin black finish; maple fretboard and neck with 70s headstock; 2 DiMarzio Billy Corgan single-coil spaced hbs and 1 DiMarzio Chopper hb in the middle. I expect you will pay $1000 - $1200 for a nice used one... maybe $700 - $900 for a serviceable one with some mileage on it.

A good alternative: The American Special Strat gives you a nice US made body (but in gloss urethane candy apple red, 2TSB or surf green - no satin black) and the same neck and headstock as the Billy Corgan. The Billy Corgan DiMarzio pups are readily available both individually and in the set of three. A Billy Corgan loaded pickguard is also available. You then have a good "Corganish" strat and the choice of keeping the trem or blocking it to make it more like the sig model.

I have played with one and would love to own one as a Hi-Gain Strat... and that is exactly what it is good for: Hi-Gain amps and effects. It is not a good clean-tone Strat and I would never recommend it as someone's only Strat unless the player is mostly focused on hard rock and metal.

Yes, that one is a USA Corgan. They have been discontinued for a couple of years so dealers are closing out any they have left in their warehouses - looks like that is what Best Buy is doing.

$842 is a good deal on one too... if it is only New Old Stock... Best Buy also uses "Clearance" to signify scratch and dent... so before driving to Aurora IL to buy it (they say shipping is not available - likely meaning they have lost its boxing) you may want to call and get some details on its condition. If it has been in-stock on display it has probably been used an abused by the lookey-loos for several years and has obviously been passed on by the serious buyers a few times. Quite possibly has been bought and returned one or more times as well. Have them give you a good assessment of its condition!

My local BB is closing out new instruments at less than GC prices, used. I spend many hours there a few days ago, as there were bargains galore. A manager approached me, said, "I've been listening to you & like your "old school playing," & started offering me even better deals. (It's also possible that my sloppy blues playing was an annoyance & he just wanted me out of the dept.)

I briefly played the Corgan. Matte finished black body & matte finished maple neck. With even a lowered, clearance price out the door price, I didn't like it much, at all.

Otoh, they had an '08 American Standard in olympic white that had faded to a nice, yellowed cream color, also on clearance. With hard case and full candy pack, I somewhat balked at the clearance pre-tax price, but he lowered it another $67.00. Kind of heavy at 8lbs.5oz, but I fell in love/lust and it's a wonderful player.

There s also something special about getting a fitted case, strap, cord and wrenches included that reminds me of the old days. (BTW, I am a quite the happy boy.)

Good price... Too bad Billy has endorsed Gibson now and talks as if he never heard of Fender?
