Haha what a `rip off. I could make a business selling broken guitars with a 25% return restocking fee for a year, and be rich!

I decided to NOT use that website, and remembered that Long&McQuade does online stuff. It's also in stock, etc etc. I'll hopefully be buying it today, I'll let you guys know when I do, and when it gets here I'll post pics ;)

Also, L&M has a 30 day return policy. Much more reputable than a shoddy store based in Mississauga (that's like the Compton of Ontario [no offense, Compton])

Cheers!

You beat me to the punch on that one. I was going to suggest them, if they were near. Apparently so. I played my first Clapton Strat in 1988 in an L&M store in Parsippany NJ. Have also been in their store in Vancouver B.C. Their stores always look like a class act. Hope you get your dream axe an at good price. We look forward to the followup.

I had no complaints with my candy apple red American Special that I could not see before buying. But it is nice to have a full month to make sure it is right!

Let us know what you get and enjoy it!

Officially bought an American Special Stratocaster w/ 3 Single Coil Texas Special Pickups, and sunburst finish:

OMG!!!

I'll post pics when it gets here, probably within the week!
I don't mean to keep this thread open too long but holy crap am I excited.

I hope others read this thread and get some good info out of it because I know I certainly did. TigerJ, ZZDoc, and everyone else who helped out, I'll be engraving your forum names on the body of this guitar

Cheers,
Nick

p.s. after everything, it came to about 810$ Canadian (that includes tax (on 699$), shipping (not much), and shipping insurance (21$) which I decided to get, even it was a scam because if I'm putting out 790 for a guitar, I may as well get the 21 in case of any accident. I never get extended warranties and such, but it being my first time I get a guitar online, I figured this is the safest bet.)

My recommendation to others -- capitalize on this sale! I'm certainly happy with my purchase. (I am not a Fender Sales Rep, just an excited little boy).

Cool vintage vibe with a touch of the contemporary. I remember how I felt when I acquired my first Stratocaster about 50 years ago. The guy I bought it from bought it new in '58. In the same band, I had the opportunity to play it often. Then he purchased a Fender Jaguar the year they were issued. The Strat became mine. Had dinner with him and our drummer this evening. [Drummer turned 69 years today.] Hope 55 years down the road, you can look back on this day and be able to say..."what a long space trip its been." 8)

Keep us posted.......Doc.

Congratulations Nick!

You are going to LOVE that guitar! It is a real US made Strat... greasebucket tone circuit and Custom Shop Texas Specials... 22 true-jumbo fret maple neck and fretboard with the (awesome in my opinion) 70s oversized headstock that increases sustain... easily the best price versus quality Strat that Fender makes!

Very nice! I think you'll be really happy with that guitar. :D With jumbo frets you'll notice easier bending and the Texas Specials are really great sounding. Now post pictures when it comes or it never happened. ;)

Congrats on the guitar. I've wanted a Surf Green American Special for awhile now and didn't know about the sale. Long and McQuade says it will be here in less then 2 weeks. :D

They don't necessarily have to have it in your local store. Have them do a national search of their data base and see if there's one out there. They can do an interstore transfer to get the guitar to you. That should satisfy the terms of the sale.

Mine had to be ordered from Fender because Long and McQuade don't have any in stock. As long as you order it by the cut off date your good. I think Surf Green is a new for this year colour on the American Specials. I remember seeing it on Fenders Twitter account and realized then I wanted one. Great colour. 8)

I dont know what you guys see in that surf green colour. Looks so tacky to me
I'm all about class ;)
Typically how long do they take to ship? L&am said usually ships next business day but it's been two business days and hasn't shipped yet. I was thinking/hoping within the week but i don't have any experience with this

Cheers

One's person's trashy is another's classy, and vice versa. There's history and culture of the Stratocaster which speaks to that finish, in the same fashion as the sunbursts. That would be Jeff Beck. Then there are the finishes which are associated with other artists: Clapton's sunburst, black, pewter, red, green, EC gray, daphne blue, and Crashocasters; Gilmour's black, candy apple red, and white; Guy's polka dot; Beck's white; Holly's sunburst. The flood of relic finishes which are now so popular. There's enough in the catalog to please a wide variety of tastes and, if you can't find it there, you can ask the Custom Shop for a solution.
