You could also use a locking strap like the PlanetWave locking strap (with the ratcheting strap ends) - but they are currently inbetween models. The one that I have is not available in stores anymore and the newest version isn't available yet. Pros: I like these since there isn't any guitar modification whatsoever and works on just about anything. Cons: the locking ratchet can strip so that it doesn't stay locked or it can slip and you'll be catching your guitar if not cognizant of the situation.

Or buy the Dunlop black plastic straplocks... No modification required.

I have two sets of the leather ends, that hold the strap on better. I've had them on every main guitar I've had for the last 20 yrs or so. I don't think they make them anymore, but they're great, easy to use, and I get offers to buy them all the time. Nothing required but the same screw that hold the old metal peg on.

I think I have some of those old things too.

I'm not currently using them though.

Do ya have a link? ;)

Although my last PlanetWave ratchet-lock did eventually not work on one end, my current one has been great for a few years. I use it with an Ibanez JS1000, Ibanes Steve Vai JEM, Fender VG Stratocaster, Peavey EVH Wolfgang (all $1000+ guitars). So, I'm pretty secure in using this or I'd use something else.

I just can't see having the fixed clip-lock on every guitar to take the strap or replacing the strap holders to use the clip-on systems. I might have a miniscule distrust of the PlanetWave strap but not as much as the standard ones - I once snapped a neck in half due to one releasing the guitar at the horn and not being able to grab it in time.

I believe that they are called the "Lokstrap" system. Do a Google on that word and you will find plenty of retailers/pictures.

I use them.

Cost about $1.49 ea. if I remember correctly. Seem to be fairly well designed.

Those Gripper strap buttons look like they might do the job in a non-fussy way. But black nylon buttons on a Strat? I think not! Why are they not made of metal?

I like the security of the push pin type or the slide on type. The strap locks i use require you to drill the hole that's already there for your strap "peg" 1/8" deeper that no one will ever see. No failers, no wear outs.
On my first strat I had the strap lock counter sunk in the center of the neck heel just below the neck and the other conter sunk n the traditional place on the end. It looked real professional and tidy.
I needed a gold one for my Firebird and the only one available at the time was the slide over type; it's just as secure as the push pin type.
I'm not a big fan of the upper horn (bout) strap peg location on the strat; I think it looks ackward and some how "in the way" though I play with mine in the stock location.

Get yourself a Sure-Lok Strap. They come in black nylon denier, have ends that fit both standard and over-sized strap buttons and cost $10. No drilling required!

I have the Sure-Lock straps for my Strat and my Tele.

Hmmm. It's Sure-Lock by LM Products - which explains why it took a bit to find the website. ;)

I might have to try one out.

My guitar (Fender) came stock with Schaller strap locks. I've been very happy with those so far.
