A loaded pickguard with:
Clapton Noiseless pups
or
Fat 50's?
I am planning on building a partscaster using a neck and possibly a body from Warmoth. My original plan was to use a loaded pickguard off Ebay, that came from a Clapton Strat with noiseless pups.
I've been reading so many good things about the Fat 50's lately, that I'm wondering if I should consider them instead.
Between these two choices, which would you choose? I play blues and classic rock.
I tried to make this a poll to vote, but I keep getting an error message.

I play blues and classic rock.

My vote goes to the Fat '50s (of which I have a set).

Through a "Leo" amp with alnico speakers and with a bit of OD push at the input, I don't think you can do much better for "classic" tones.

Fat 50's are single coils are not noiseless. You can always try out the pickups at music shop that carries the new American Standards.

I don't like too many of the noiseless pickups, the sound isn't quite the same.

Im noticing that too the recording engineer had me crank down my distortion first and its been a new world. I thought I needed so much more he was like over the years your tone has just got lost.
So I did what he asked and it sounded so good and pickups I hated suddenly I loved.

Real Singles like 69s and Texas Specials are catching my attention and Dimarzio and Duncan stacks arent getting the right sound.

Fat 50's get my vote...I think if you search around here you will find a lot of good comments.

I did, that's what got me thinking. I'm a little surprised they would get chosen over a Clapton setup. I haven't played the Fat 50's yet. It's on my to do list. It's been a couple of years since I played a Clapton and I doubt I'll find one that I can play again to compare them. So, I figure this forum is my best bet.
Correct me if I'm wrong. From what I've read, the Clapton setup will be more midrange and the Fat 50's more bass heavy. Since everyone likes them, they must get pretty ballsy without being muddy. If this is correct, it sounds like something I would like.

That's the way I'm leaning. If someone that's played both could explain the differences, it would be cool. I've been busy at work and haven't been able to go to a GC and try out the Fat 50's. I doubt I'll find a Clapton model around to play.

Clapton pups are louder then classic Strat pups and louder then Texas special pups too.
The push the front end of say a BF DR too much IMO. Takes what limited head room there is away. Go for the Fat Fitties....

I amazed at the fat 50s clarity. No mud at all, even on a gain channel. The neck pup might just be my favorite ever.

And yet another vote for the fat 50s here.

Hmm, they're two very different pickups. I've tried both, and I had a Strat with Vintage Noiseless pickups for a time (like the Claptons, but no mid boost).

If the standard 60 cycle hum of single coil pickups bothers you, definitely go for the noiseless. But I would recommend using 250k pots instead of the 500k pots they come with. I actually removed my Vintage Noiseless pickups from my Strat and put back in the stock MIMs because they sounded squashed to me. They seemed too compressed and lacked the dynamics of a regular single coil. Now I know that 250k pots can help it not sound so squashed, so I plan on reinstalling them with 250k pots when I get the chance.

But honestly, if the hum doesn't bother you (it doesn't bother me) then I would go with the Fat '50s. Nothing beats a true single coil pickup IMO. And making sure your guitar is properly shielded will help cut back on the hum.
