And I'm quite a Vaughan-fan as well as a Hendrixx and ZZtop, the band,..... I also like to play alternative music with stretched tones (could be solved with a pedal)...

Well you're certainly spread across a range of genre's and tones aren't you. There's quite a bit to satisfy there. You might consider mating a Fender Frontman 212R [solid state] to a Fender Mustang Floor as a place to begin, saving the more sophisticated gear for a time, let's say, when you're earning some money with your music and the need calls for the upgrade.

+1 on the Mustang Floor... mate that with any low-end solid state or tube amp you want thru the FX loop and you are set. (Just make sure the amp has a FX loop or has a very clean channel for direct input) When it is time to upgrade the amp... you can keep the Mustang Floor to play through the new amp!

My opinion on this tends to vary based on what I've been playing with recently...but I must agree on hitting something that will let you hear that the guitar can do...

All the clean: I've always liked the Fender Deluxe Reverbs..new, reissue, original

Spanky clean to dirty: imho, Vox all the way if you need it all in one box w/o a OD pedal

Crunchy: My fave this week is the Fender Hot Rod Deville 410

Yes...all of these are more than $400...but often come up used for a lot less than new.

Cheers.

I may have missed it, but no one mentioned a Super Champ X2. Channel one gives you a tube amp, and channel two is hybrid with lots of amp models and integrates with FUSE like the Mustangs. It's also available in your budget. Seems like a great place to start!

I did, and still stand by it.

Aren't you glad you asked :?:

Thanks a lot guys,

I'm really considering, but I think I'll just save up and buy a decent amp(I am taking the Mustang floor into consideration). The thing my new guitar learnt me was that you should never go for the second thing you want.

Keep that in mind when you come to choose a wife.
