I have a copy of the Frontline catalog 2003 that has the Playboy 40th Anniversary Stratocaster in it.
There are two photos of the guitar that has the famous cover image of Marilyn Monroe on the first edition of the magazine.
I was told that there were very few copies of this catalog printed because of this nudity and that maybe copies were recalled from dealers.
Obviously I'm wondering about the collectability of this catalog.
Do any of you know anything or know where I might find some information?
Thanks,
Mike

I haven't heard that, but I have all of the Frontlines from 2001 I think. Nice for reference!

I have almost all of the Frontlines back to 1991 back when they were quarterly, now I will have to go through that one and look for it. I remember the guitar, so pretty sure I have that one. Don't remember one ever being recalled!

I have the 2003 issue, also. Never heard the story before.

I'm missing 2002 which I think was the first year of the Highway 1 series.

So you guys that have the 2003, check and see if the photos of that guitar are in there. If they aren't that would mean they did a reprint.

The Marilyn Guitar is right there on page 7 of the 2003 Frontline. I have two copies of it, so don't think it was recalled!

So all this means is that three of us have the copy with the picture. Doesn't prove if the story is true or not. Hundreds or thousands of copies could have gotten out before a recall.

My copy has it as well. Two pics on the bottom of page seven.

I really wish Fender would publish Frontline like this again.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
