Do any of 2013 Strats even feature American Standard pickups? I had a set in my honey burst special, and preferred the sound of that guitar over an american standard with the fat 50s. I liked the fat 50s in the short time I played them.. but the honeyburst strat sounded better acoustically... I had already ordered a set of Don Mare's formvar 60s so I chose the honeyburst as it was significantly cheaper with the christmas specials guitar center was running.

Here's another Dude who knew the Honeyburst Special has American Standard pups... must not have bought yours from GC!

I actually did get mine from GC. I thought it had the Texas specials at time of purchase, just cause the pickups in my honey burst didn't sound anything like the American standards pickups in my previous 99 american standard strat. The 99 strat sounded like poop compared to the honey burst. So I bought the honey burst and sold my 99 american standard. The American Standard pickups in the honeyburst were incredible sounding. I'd probably kept them in, but I'd already ordered the formvar 60s for my now sold american standard. So I put the formvar 60s in the honey burst, as well as some schaller locking tuners... the american standards pick ups are awesome, but the Mare pickups took it into a new stratosphere!

i just played a 12' black with rosewood there ehh some good tones but there a little too open for my taste and with a little overdrive the bridge seems to be a little shrill honestly i like the pups in my 2010 american strat over the fat 50's

American Standard Strat pickups have had the plastic bobbin like the Tex-Mex for a long time until the Fat 50's switch. They always seemed to be missing detail and had an annoying resonance peak. No plastic bobbin pickups, with the fake stagger, or flat poles (late 80's) resided in any of my Strats for any length of time. Just my opinion.

I got the 89 flat pole in my standard I put the bridge in the neck it smokes.
I have the hot Alnico 3 in my Deluxe and the neck pickup rules love em both.
I like the Texas Specials I wanna try the fat 50 but Im not sure its for me.
Arent the Tex Mex just the Standards with a hotter bridge?

I believe so.
Pickups are part of the tone thing. One person's shrill is another person's attack. I do think the 2010 American standard pickups had a better distortion tone. I play clean and overdriven tones with occasional high gain. If you play more distortion type tones, the stock pickups are for you. The clean and slightly overdriven tones they offered seemed to be missing something, IMO.

Yeah our originals are southern rock and our covers are 70s tribute so its mostly distorted classic tone like Slash or Aerosmith KISS and stuff

Black plastic bobbin and wound over 7k on the bridge. (Hot bridge) the other 2 are wound between 6 and 7k. They have a number written in white on the bottom usually.

my 2011 american standard strat is my least favorite guitar. I try to love it but can't. I consistently find the SOUND of my '65 mustang to blow it away in clarity either clean or dirty tone.

strat is either too muddy/weak or ear piercing treble with no in between

same with 2011 american standard tele. need to sell them or change the pickups

I tried a few sets of pickups in mine until I settled on SD APS-1's. I have them in my Am Std Strat and Am Std Tele. The Tele is still a twanger, but that's the nature of the guitar, unless you humbucker it. I lean toward the vintage sound, with a little refinement.

My first electric guitar was a '64 Duo Sonic. Played the frets off of it.

Yeah, I have the '65 mustang reissue, I should note. Those retailed (before the standard 15% discount) for $939 when I got it and I think they have moved them to $899.

They are every bit a $900 guitar just as much as the American Standard Strat, IMO. I have decided to just trust my own ears. Here is why I mention that.

If you read comments/review sections of websites like GC, etc, you'll find people complaining that the mustang was supposed to be a "student" guitar and that now it is way overpriced only because of Kurt Cobain.

Well, at least my 2010 reissue mustang that was made in Japan..it's a beast of a guitar in every way. It is AT LEAST as good as the same-priced American Standard Strat, in tone, craftmanship, and of course MORE playable. It's like butter.

Perhaps it was a student guitar and they got lucky, but lucky they got, and the guitar justifies the $900 cost if an American Standard Strat does and twice on Sunday.

I don't know what the pickups are...but they work. Really 5 unique tones on the mustang and all of them very good.

It was my first "real" guitar. Since then I acquired american standard strats, teles, etc...I have recently decided to stop fighting my love..the mustang is the best guitar I own.
