First of all hello to everyone. Secondly I apologize in advance. Obviously this is my first post but I come because I have a question that I'm sure has been answered many times. Well I can't find the answer to any of those times. So I figured who better to ask then the fine people at the Fender forums :D

Anyway I've pretty much decided I'm putting Texas Specials in a partsocaster project I have going. My question pertains to the difference between the difference Texas Specials that Fender offers. I'm only interested in the neck and middle pickups really, going with something different in the bridge.

What are the difference between the Texas Specials offered in the Lonestar Deluxe strat and the stand alone Custom Shop Texas Specials (in the SRV as well). Are they actually the same pickups? Manufactured in difference places? Same specs (magnets, # of wraps, etc.) Are they at least tonally the same?

http://www.fender.com/series/deluxe/lon ... atocaster/
and
http://www.fender.com/accessories/pick- ... r-pickups/

I ask because there is a set of neck/middle Texas Specials on ebay but seller says they are from the Lonestar strat. I just want to be sure what I am getting if I so buy.

Thank You in advance!!

I personally don't like Texas Specials very much but I have one strat with them (American Standard).

I really like the middle position alone but I prefer other pickups in every other position and combinations, so in fact, my Texas Special strat (3 single coils) actually is used as a
"single-single-coil-in-middle-position-strat". (and for slide only!)

My understanding is that all Texas Specials are Custom Shop Texas Specials and that the Texas Specials in a MIM Deluxe Lonestar Strat are the same Texas Specials that can be bought as a $200 set or found in a $1600 US SRV or Mark Knopfler Strat or the $900 US American Special. I could be wrong though!

That's what I just can't seem to find out for sure. I've literally found info that says they are and aren't the same pickups.

Unfortunately I can't find out for sure whether the pickups are the ones until I get them in hand and installed. But if they are fake that would mean he specifically wanted to fake TS's and look for a guitar that had them stock and say he took them out vs just saying he had texas specials :?: Guy does have 100% feedback though. Thanks for your concern though

May have just finally found my answer.

Other Great Fender Strat Pickups

Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Pickups: Produced by the Fender Custom Shop for the distinctive sound of the Texas blues exemplified by Stevie Ray Vaughn, Texas Special Pickups are overwound with vintage style Alnico 5 magnets and enamel coated wire. Known for their distinctive bass, clear highs, and midrange chirp, the Texas Specials are available as a separate kit or as original equipment on:
Stevie Ray Vaughan Artist Strat

Bonnie Raitt Artist Strat
Mark Knopfler Artist Strat
American Special Stratocaster
Fender Deluxe Lone Star Strat has 2 Texas Special pickups (neck and middle position) paired with a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates Plus humbucking bridge pickup for that incredible Billy Gibbons ZZTop Texas sound.

Being Sam Ash I would assume they get the low down from Fender and have legit info.

Now to worry to whether the ebay ones are actually them or not

I would buy them as a set and sell your bridge off if you dont need it. At least you know what your getting.

Are you talking about the two loose ones on there? I saw them I just put a used set in for the other guitar player in my band.
Trouble with used texas specials the red and blue marks wear off with handling you dont know which is which. The yellow wire is always the reverse wound, thats about all to be sure of. Guy had his marked Middle as neck so all he would have got was hum-cancling in the number 2 position.
Point is with a set new you can take what you need and sell the bridge to a friend.
Sets are 135 free s/h on there.

My American Special sounds way better than my old MIM Lonestar strat did... I am convinced that the Texas Specials are all the same though. I think it is the electronics and the tone circuit in the American Special that makes them sound more clear and ringing.

Yeah the loose ones from seller tajvida5ipp. On my phone so I can't link to them easily.

I might just wait though. I've been looking to buy some Specials for about 3 weeks already. The regularity in which they show up on eBay as a full set even in a pick guard doesn't require me to have to buy those there. Plus a lot have the custom shop sticker on them as well.
