I kind of like the quirky finish after not seeing these around much anymore. Anybody else have one of these (now kind of rare) Strats?

Yeppers, I just learned about these a while back. Saw one on Craigslist. Almost went and bought it but turned out the neck was warped. I do not think very many of these were made (in Mexico of course). But they are pretty cool. I was talking with Rob Schwarz at Fender a couple days ago about history at Fender, quota numbers, colors, etc and he told me sometimes things like this happen without much planning. He specifically mentioned the Splattercasters. He said some guys in the paint shop were just goofing around, put a body on a spinner of some sort and dripped thinned paint on the body while it was spinning. Then just finished it. Thus the creation of the Splattercasters came into being after Fender agreed to try to sell some of them. Cool looking....

Also seemingly kind of rare.

I've seen one come through the shop for a setup once. I remember when they came out, it was very nearly my first guitar. But I ended up with a purple Squier instead. I really like my Squier, but I kind of wish I had snatched up a Splattercaster as well. Not that I could have on my 11 year old allowance anyway...

Yeah, it seems that they were everywhere when they first came out, but obviously people are holding onto them these days as I hardly ever see them in the classifieds anymore.

Some of the colors were downright fugly, but some were....um...different and kinda cool in a strange way.

I see them for sale every now and then. Didn't really care for them.

Along with a LP Goldtop, the Splattercaster was one of my dream guitars. I got the splattercaster and sort of lost interest in the LP. I got the body off Ebay, the neck and tuners are Mighty Mite. I went with the large headstock over the original small headstock just out of preference, I know the splattercasters came with the small stock. The pickguard is a light mint green, loaded with pickups from Dragonfire. I am replacing the Dragonfire single coils with Highway 1 overwrapped alnico IIIs left over when I put Texas Specials in the HW1. Image

I think about 2003 - 2007, but not positive.
