hey, i just found this slightly interesting. i found a person in my town who is selling a "strat", and it's not that i'm new to guitars, but i am kind of stumped here. he says it was given to him and that the previous owner didn't know much about it other than it was bought in germany. i have no idea if it's MIJ or MIM or if it's a home job and not a fender at all. funny things are that there is no serial number on it, and the way "fender" is stamped on the headstock, as well as on the back of the neck and apparently also on the bridge, i've never seen something like that before.
he says it's a $1600 strat and that it was appraised for $700 and he needs to get rid of it so he's selling it for $325. lol i know. but it does look kinda cool, but i just wondered if anyone could tell anything for sure from these pictures of it. oh, and no i haven't gone to see it in person, it just intrigued me.

My opinion is: It's not worth what he is asking.

That's just a plywood squire with the paint and the logo partially sanded off.
This guy is tryying to rip you off, you can buy a new one of those for less than what he is asking for.

What ever it WAS you got what once was a red stratocaster; maybe the model "the Strat" judging by the red pickup covers.
Somebody sanded the body and the neck looking at the "Orange peel" in the neck's finish tells me that; the body looks as though it may have some clear over it. It was stained at one time; that is plain to see; I wouldn't buy it except as a project guitar or a experimental platform for testing pickups; but the value of the axe was lost (if it ever was a genuine Fender not a Squire or Affinity) when it was canded and mated with that squire neck.

Yeah. looks like it. You can see all the layers at the arm contour.

The guys jerkin' your chain. He just took a Squire and screwed it over and then tried to pass it to you as a strat. It's a $200 guitar to start with and by the looks of things, is worth about $100 now!

I'm quite certain that the guy that usually played it wore a coat that was made out of sandpaper... the latest fashion you know!

I am on a different computer with a much better monitor and with this I can actually see where the Squire logo was removed from the headstock.

I agree with everyone here. Appraised by his a-hole obviously. There is no such thing as a headstock with:

[Fender] Stratocaster by Fender

Isn't that redundant? There is Squire Stratocaster by Fender though...

And the body is definitely plywood. You could build one of these for $100 from parts.

If this is on a real site (e.g.: eBay), I'd turn him in for false advertisement.

Wow, that guitar is a piece of work!

I did like seeing the plywood plies in the contour.

Was it originally white? Was that red underneath?

It's worth about $50 in that condition.
