I am thinking about purchasing this guitar, does it look legitimate? What should I look out for when I go test it? What would be a fair price? I am looking for a 7.25" radius fretboard and 40mm nut guitar with a thin neck, I think this is my best option?

Here is another guitar that I was thinking of purchasing, does it fit my specs and do you guys think it looks legitimate?

Hi ScottB123,

The first one looks legit, and a good price too. :)

The second one is a parts-caster and not even close to a "replica" of anything that Jimi played, and certainly a faked signature on the back of the headstock. Jimi had neither a left-handed neck, nor a 50s style pick guard on his '68 Strat, his was a right-handed guitar strung left-handed. This one looks over-priced to me for what it is, but if you like it that's all that matters.

Hey shimmilou,

Thank you for the quick reply and your knowledge. I am heavily debating on whether to buy this 68' RI Strat or to simply take my current MIM strat and buy a neck from Warmouth that has the same specs if I can find one? I guess it is more of a budget issue, I can't seem to find any 68' RI Strat necks on Ebay for a reasonable price as that would be a more legitimate way than to purchase one from Warmouth.

Any insight?

The CIJ '68 is the Real McCoy, and a very nice one too. The ash body makes it a stand out from the typical pack of 3TSB Strats. As well, the price is extremely attractive......

I'd jump on it!

Best of luck, HTH

Hey Retroverbial,

Thanks for the insight. I am just hoping it is a 68' RI because if you read his post, it states 69' RI. Did they even make a 69' RI CIJ Stratocaster? He also posted earlier last month with another picture showing the thickness of the neck, I am not sure if that would help with the interpretation of the year.

Must be a typo, Scott (or the owner is misinformed).

A '69 Strat would have the large black CBS headstock decal.

In any case, I'm not certain that Fuji-Gen ever made a re-issue '69 guitar.

Mine must be unique then , Serial no U002695, made at fugigen factory ( a genuine 1968 reissue)
The stratocaster logo was kinked and the amber tinted laquer finish was flaky after a while, so I had it refinished in clear nitro , but they couldn't get one of the correct logos for it, so I had them put a transitional logo on it (It'll never be sold anyway) and to be on the safe side, so it didn't get scratched off, I put 17 extra coats of nitro over the face of the headstock

Wasn't 1968 the transition year to the CBS-style headstock decal? I'm not sure how early in the year that happened but I suspect that either style would be essentially accurate for a '68 RI. I think Fender Japan has used both styles on what they call a '68 RI - depending on the year (and maybe even who was building instruments for Fender Japan at the time).

The first one is real but they were called 68' RI but I think they were 67 RI they were made in Japan and some were crafted in Japan. I have five of these I love the neck on them. For that price you person would be dumb not to buy it. I never see that color that much too I always see white and natural

I also support the census of jumping on that guitar as soon as possible.

If it fits your hand and it's comfortable to fret, WGAS?

Don't get wrapped around the axle over a neck profile.
