Hi all!

Has anyone played the Pawn shop series? The 70s Pawn shop strat is my dream strat. I love the look and feel, and the layout as far as controls, pickups, etc are my dream strat.

I really love the look! I am a Gibson and PRS guy first but I have been checking out some Fenders lately. :)

What do you guys think of the quality compared to a Fender American strat? I believe this is Mexican.

Would love some feedback, opinions and experience. :)

Thanks,
Rich

I drool over the black/white version myself.. and frequently check availability in the local GC but apparently they are still on special order only status. Also there are no end-user reviews to be found anywhere yet.

The Pawnshop 70's Stratocaster Deluxe incorporates many of the features you'd expect from a Tele Thinline.

Yep, that be the red-headed step child of Fender. So ugly, when it was born, doc looked at the rear and the face, then declared it Twins!

Aww! I like it! But I could never own it as my one and only Strat... cos it is definitely NOT a Strat!

Might be a sweet deal for a Tele player who is starting to tire from the weight and blocky body of their Teles...

It is a Fender strat and better designed than a regular strat. :)

There is but ONE Fender Strat and that's the guitar that Leo designed nearly 60 years ago. It's the guitar that FMIC continues to build and sell year after year after year while meanwhile the blasphemous johnny-come-lately marketing aberrations such as the heretical "pawn shop" instruments will disappear from catalogs rather quickly and never be issued again.

I think there is a pattern developing with the Pawn Shop line... last year it was "lets put a Tele neck on Strat bodies"... now its "lets have a Strat body and neck but give it Tele pup and control configurations and a Tele pickguard!" I envision the Ensenada factory having contests among the assemblers where the grand prize is that your creation gets put into the Pawn Shop line for a year!

Maybe Fender will cross a David Gilmour sig Strat with a Squier Classic Vibe Tele next year and only charge $2000 for it as a 80s Pawn Shop Custom Shop Squier Deluxe Pink Floyd Reissue That Never Was!

My opinion? It is a guitar with a severe identity crisis. It don't know what to be.

I am with Arjay on these guitars...Leo got it right almost 60 years ago and although the new guitars might be more consistantly made, they have yet to equal or surpass his original design.

YMMV

Honestly, I could care less! I hate middle pickups and hate tremolas so you can see why I like this guitar.

So I am on the fence between this Pawn Shop strat and the Jim Root Telecaster. I am on the fence but I love my new 2012 Tele so much, I have been wanting another Tele that is different from any other tele so the mahogany body, locking tuners, my favorite Gibson 12" radius fretboard, jumbo frets and ebony fretboard would be so much fun to have in the collection. I would replace the p'ups with Rio Grandes or Duncans.

Even though I do like this I think I would rather have a regular tele and a strat with a humbucker in the bridge. Problem with a typical Tele is that the tele neck pickup is my least favorite of Fender pickups and there aren't a lot of good replacements.

If I was going to go for a pawn shop guitar, I'd go the whole hog and get totally weird with the Super Sonic.
