Doc....I saw in another thread where you mentioned that you had seen the real Brownie and the repro up close and personal....did you get a chance to play the repro?

It was in a display case, alone, waiting for the Gibby, and the Martin to complete the trio. Guy...one would have a better shot at test driving a Lambourghini than having the sales staff at a Guitar Center's Platinum Room let someone put their hands on the one and only copy allotted to them. The deal is...to paraphrase the saleperson.."You'll have to have your money in your hand and be fortunate enough to have had your finger on the button the day of the sale." I did get the feel of the neck though, without having to wrestle it down. A lot like the 10/56 neck. The salesperson had A/B a CS '56 with a 10/56 neck against the Brownie and was quite pleased with both. Honestly, were talking about a $15K + enough in taxes to buy an MIM Stratocaster, 100 world wide, 50 in the US. You don't want every headbanger in the neighborhood riffing on that instrument. It's not being purchased to be a player anyway, as I see it.

Right....I was hoping maybe you had a friend or relative or something working there that might have had some "inside" access to the guitar or something.

For me, bending on the AV '56 is really easy.

Here's some pics. Like I said, it's still hard to see much of a difference in the necks in pics, but hopefully you can get an idea of the chunkiness of the '56 neck. I don't have any real close-up shots of my '57 AVRI at the moment, but if you'll look at the 12th fret you'll see the spacing between the dots is wider on the '56. The fretboard is wider, the back of the neck thicker, more "C" or "U" than the '57 soft "V." I have flat thumbs and average hands, and both necks are very easy to play.

The '57 with a soft "V:"

The neck of the '57 even looks skinny from a couple of feet away:

And the new AV '56:

I have no idea why the neck looks bowed in this next one--maybe it's the shine of the neck lacquer or else the crappy lighting as it was taken as an iPhone pic; but it is not bowed:

Like I said, tough to look at and say, "Ah, there's the difference," but there is a difference. It's subtle and obvious when you play one or the other, but they are different. I still can't help with a 10/56 comparison other than to say the neck on the new AV '56 feels like the real McCoy.

Nice thanks for the upload a guy at wildwood guitars told me it should be 880 to 980 and the specs from muskitkraft on the neck I was gonna buy was 88 to 95 v to a c but I don't think I'm gonna build one I might as well spend the money and get the 56 instead of taking the chance @mikejdension

Thanks. There's pics of my '56 in a thread I started; scroll down and it's there somewhere. A couple of folks pointed out a couple of bridge saddle adjustments I should look at and I got that done in a few minutes' time.

Sadly I haven't had a lot of time to play it plugged in yet--busy two weeks at work--but the pickups sounded fine to me. It comes with .10's which take some of the potential harshness out of the brightness without losing that Strat chime. I had to fiddle with the PU's on my '57 to get them where I wanted them, but the '56 seems right "out of the box" so to speak. I play through a tweed Blues Deluxe reissue and it sounds great. Not a whole lot of difference sound-wise from my '57 (both are alder Sunbursts) but they PLAY diffferently for sure. The '57 came with a 3-way switch installed and a 5-way in the case; the '56 was the reverse--odd, because '56's had three-ways. I'm going to change that out because the "in-between" position seems to get more pluckiness and reedy tones than the naturally selected second position of the 5-way. Other than that it is a brand-new '56 teleported to 2013.

Fender finally got back to me guys they said the new av56 is a little bit diffrent from the 10/56 neck it measures out at 900 to 990 now this throws me completely off musikkraft lists a neck as a C chunky 2 that lists 90 to 99 now I don't know what to do should I build for half the price and take my chance or just got for the real deal decisions decisions
