I am sorry to hear this. They were very influential when I was young. "I'd love to change the world" was one of the songs that made me want to play guitar!

Rest In Peace,
-Harry

Yes, sad news. He was a very unique musician.

And, thanks for that stirring, yet humble tribute.

I watched a old video on YouTube of him playing (was looking for I Would Love to Change the World tune) and came across this guitar solo he did that was like 15 minutes long. He just kept on going and going with speed licks, bends, and hammer on. Was pretty amazing he could keep it up so long without his fingers giving out! Great guitar player that came and just kind of disappeared years later.

As a teenager growing up in Cleveland I was lucky enough to have a friend who's cousin worked a tiny music store that a lot of rock stars went to. He would call us when the got something cool in like a famous players guitar. One time we went because they had a Mellotron with a full set of tapes and we just had to play with that so we went.
We were in the basement where the have lesson rooms where you could try things out. One sales guy brought down a Gibson hollow body for someone in a room to try. Whoever it was started to play "I'd Love To Change The World" but every time he got to the really fast part he stumbled on the riff. We just giggled. After about 5 or 6 times I opened the door and said "Alvin Lee you ain't". Unfortunately Alvin Lee he WAS! Oops! We were removed from the premises and weren't allowed back. Now every time I go in there I cringe a little when I see where he signed the wall that day.
RIP and, sorry.

This sounds like the story of Chet Atkins when He was on a cruise ship. The same thing happened to him when he filled in for the lounge guitarist who was sick. None knew who he was and he was just another passenger. The captain came by and listened to him for a little while. When Chet was done the Captain told him, "You're pretty good, but you ain't no Chet Atkins." Chet just laugh it off. Later he told the story in an interview and said, "That was the only time in my life where I was complimented and criticized at the same time!" At least that is how the story went as found on an insert on a Chet and Les (Paul) CD I have.
