I´ve sent an e-mail to Buddy Magazine(where this photo was published in 1989) asking for info or a best quality photo of this guitar... but I had no answer...

So, it´s an unknown SRV guitar, isn´t it?
I think I´ll give it up... If YOU don´t know this guitar, nobody knows...

Headstock logo clearly shows Bill Lawrence's signature, so it's definitely a Bill Lawrence Swampkaster S.

I think this particular guitar was made by Jzchak Wajcman for SRV himself.

Yes, but I'm not as 100% certain.

My personal suggestion is to send an email to J. Wajcman in order to obtain further documentation about the guitar in question.

In addition to SRV Wajcman had built guitars for Roy Buchanan and Keith Richards among others.

His pickups were used by a bunch of famous artists such as Dimebag Darrell and Nuno Bettencourt, to name a few.

Thank you, chromeface!!

Well, I´ve done what you told me to do.
I´ve sent an e-mail to guitarpickups@billlawrencepickups.com and see what they say about this guitar:
"This is the story and the facts about the guitar on the picture.

Mr. Jzchak Wajcman and Mr. William Stich founded in 1965 the original Bill Lawrence Guitar Pickup Company.

By 1984 Mr. Stich left the company. Jzchak Wajcman the sole owner of the Bill Lawrence guitarpickup company added to the pickup production the Bill Lawrence guitars (all with original Bill Lawrence pickups made in USA). The guitars were made by the same Japanese company that made the Fender Japan guitars.

Between 1984 and 1985 Stevie Ray was an instrumental help to Jzchak Wajcman to develop the Bill Lawrence S model.

In the summer of 1985 at the Del Mar Fair in San Diego, Wajcman handed Stevie this Bill Lawrence guitar for evaluation. Stevie said: “I am keeping it - this is my guitar”.

W have no information regarding the othe person on the other pictures, .

The pickups on this guitar are: "Bill Lawrence Black Label" S1 S2 S3
( S3 is the Bridge pickup) the magnets of the pickups are all centered to the string.

I hope this info will help you

Best regards

Bill Lawrence USA"

So I think the "mistery" was finaly solved :D ... But I still wonder what is written on the headstock...

Any Idea???

I´ve rwote again to them and they said this:
"It sais BILL LAWRENCE

This was before we made the decal for the Logo

This guitar was not taken from the production line"

So now it´s solved!!!

Thank you all for the help!!!

Best wishes!

So the Swampkaster S was made at the Fujigen Gakki facility.

Fujigen also produced many of the Hoshino-branded guitars and basses at the time, including the GR series for synth giant Roland.

Wow, a piece of SRV history that I didn't know and a guitar I've never seen. Interesting stuff, and I thought I was a living, breathing SRV encyclopedia!

I´ve seen pictures that SRV plays a Les Paul, a flying V, an Epiphone Hollow body, some teles and many other "out of strat standard" models(if you want, I can send these pics by mail), but these ones above are hard to identify...

So, Guitar Sherlocks, please help me to solve another "mistery"!!!
Can anybody tell any info about this guitar?
