Using the American Musical Supply catalog as a reference, Spring 2012 with Kurt Cobain on cover. Inside cover reads prices effective till March 14, 2012. Could someone PLEASE explain to me why in the world the price of the American Standard Strat has go up $200.00 in the past year??!?!?! First it was $999.00 at AMS, Sweetwater and Musicians's Friend. Then it jumped $100.00 when they added the CS Fat 50's and and aged plastic. Now just this week with from what i can tell no changes, it has now jumped another $100.00 and is "on sale" for $1199.00 And yes i did check and the MSRP has indeed risen as well. I've been slowly saving to purchase a American Standard but i dont know how i'm ever going to afford one if they keep jacking the price up!!

.....everything has gotten more expensive so keep saving them pennies. Otherwise, be on the look out for a deal weather on e-Bay, Craigslist, local pawnshops, etc.

Come over here.

2012 MIA RRP $1400. Local retailers consistently selling $400-600 above that.
2103 MIA RRP $1680. Local retailers cutting us a break and keeping them to $1995.
MIMs retail for $850

Buy a MIM instead. Plenty of people can't tell the difference. Even if they can, they'd be hard pushed to justify a MIA is worth twice as much.

You want something to get faster, better and cheaper every year, buy computer stuff.

Oops! You've mistyped the year. :|

This is for the 2013 USA Standard and NOT 2103 as incorrectly mentioned.

The buying power of the dollar has dropped. That's basically the bottom line.

So, is that across the board, or a factor of supply and demand for certain of their models? I purchased an American Special early last year and have not seen an increase in the selling price at GC.

There's probably is more than one factor involved, but generally I would expect prices to rise in the long run. I'm sure there will still be sales & such, esp. if there are last years models available or discontinued models etc.

When you're at GC check the serial #'s. You don't want to be paying 2013 prices for gear they paid 2012 dealer prices for. Argue that with the salesperson. Those guitars have been as low as $799 last year if memory serves.

Fender prices vary... They use custom shop pickups now and the usually have a big sale at the end of every model year...

To my knoweledge the increase was to just the American Standard. The American Special, 60's Classic Players, and i even think the EC , JB, and SRV models all stayed the same price. So no it wasnt a across the board price hike.

Or..........
Keep your eyes open for misprinted price tags. I got lucky and found my Amer.Dlx Strat at a 35% savings off retail price due to an incorrect price printed on a correctly labeled tag. If not for the misprint I would have ended up with the standard as that was what I was there to purchase.
Thank you guitar center Holiday new hires.
