I use to play a 2000 American Series strat with the two points floating bridge. This is a sweet strat. I wonder if the "new" American Standard strat bridge is really better? Anybody has any comments on those strats?

I know I'm going to raise a storm with this but I've never so much liked the feel of those vintage saddles under the palm. More twangy sound? Maybe, maybe not. The rest of the instrument is great, though. I love two-point floating trems.

I agree with Jol Danzig (at Hamer): there has never been a better time to build, buy and play the electric guitar.

Well I'm 100% with you! The comfort of the two points trems is one of the first thing I noted (and the feel of the neck too) when I bought my 2000 amSe strat. I remember hurting a lot my right hand palm when I played a MIM that had this "vintage" style bridge.

I suppose this is just marketing hype. In fact the new two points floating trems are by far better sounding and comfortable, at least, in my book.

Hello Stratquebec,

Personally I like the saddles on the
new standard better.

I have no data to support this
other than the fact that
I just like em better.

No hand damage here.

Cheers.

You can always carefully sand, grind or file down the saddle height screws if they stick up and dig into you hand.

I just ordered a few in every size from Callaham for all my Callaham saddles... the best IMHO.

I love my vintage stamped steel and chromed five-point American bridge with the steel plate in my Highway One. With 5 springs, it works great. Huge sustain. The new American Standard bridge is a big improvement, imho, because it looks more vintage.

I've replaced almost all my bridge hardware on all my strats to Callaham.

In late 2007, i ordered a 2007 american strat because i LOVE the bridge on that strat, it look and feel amazing, and it gives it a nice modern look ! After 3 weeks of waiting for my strat, the salesman call me to let me know that my order was switch for a 2008 AM standard. When i saw that the 2008 strat had a vintage style tremelo, i picked up the phone and tried to find a 2007 one. And i did !! :D

All that to say... if i really want a vintage looking guitar, i would go and buy a vintage guitar. But i want my American strat to have that niicee modern look !

I probably have a relatively poor attitude about the current overall state of the strat. It seems to me that I'm spending my $$$ on the strat for the machines and the wood. I generally toss the bridge assembly and pickups and replace with Callaham Guitar hardware and aftermarket pups.

Well I've got a new Am Standard Strat - nice! I don't really care for the feel of the bent saddles as much, but it doesn't impede my playing at all. I also have an Am Tele HS with the more modern saddles and they do feel smoother, but again, I don't really notice it adding or taking away from my playing.

I know there is the claim of a tonal difference, but I don't have (2) Strats to perform my own A/B test. I know I like the sound of mine :)

Well thanks all for your comments.

On my side, I like better the look of the vintage but by far preffer the feel of the modern for palm mutting.

It always makes me smile when Fender is annoucing a "new" strat.
It was really more "new" when the american series was launch but since then, nothing is really new. New with vintage : what a strange combination!

The only reason I don't like the new American Strats with the two point trem and vintage style saddles is that it used to be a unique feature of my 50's player. Now everone will have one :)

Honeslty I love that combination. It's the best of both worlds IMHO.
