Tell me more about this strat. It appeared on the Fender Japan page and it has a double-locking trem by GOTOH, and all the other features you'd expect in an American HSS Strat. However, when I try to Google with quotes, I don't get a result at all. It may be called STR-FR.

Looks nice. Fender Japan does a lot of models that aren't available in other countries; this could be one of them. I believe you might be able to order them as an individual - I know that some other players here in the USA have imported individual guitars from Fender Japan through some Japanese retailer but I'm not remembering who they got it through.

Fender Japan has a lot of Floyd Rose variants. Some of them are standard models, some of them are limited/special orders. This is my 2010 MIJ Strat with all Gotoh hardware:

Suhr uses the Gotoh Floyd Rose bridge as a standard equipment material for his guitars since 2009.

John stated that the Original Floyd Roses aren't what they used to be. He then switched to Gotoh trems as their quality is a lot better. He also found that he had to work on every Original Floyd Rose he got, something to do with shoddy saddles.

@chromeface - I read a post from John over on The Gear Page that he just went back to using Original Floyd Roses late last year. He had done a few installs of OFRs as specific customer requests and he felt that Schaller had brought the quality back up to their old standards so he decided to start using them again.

Even though the Gotoh is a quality unit evidently he was still getting a lot of push-back from customers who specifically wanted the OFR.

The Modern was the first Suhr to be fitted with the Gotoh Floyd unit.

Of course you're right about your last quote, the Modern Satin is one of the first Moderns to bear the original Floyd Rose trem.

The Japanese love to build metal-oriented guitars, don't they? Fender's first shot at heavy metal guitars came from Japan, and had its nationality clearly stated. Their most outlandish Strat at the time came from Japan. Two of the most famous metal guitar companies are of Japanese origin- maybe more. It's a lot less surprising that plenty of FR-style Strats are made in Japan.

Where can I find a current listing of Strats made in Japan with FR-style trems? That Strat I linked was the only one I could catch, and that 1H isn't listed, so it could be a limited edition.

I wonder what lies below the pickguard. If it's HSS, routing will be needed for the neck humbucker. If it's HSH, fine. If it's the pit, let's just reach out for the brass pickguard.
