Does anyone know if the Custom Shop 10/56 V neck on the 56 CS Strat is similar to the new American Vintage 56 reissue soft V? I saw the thread on here where it's said to be a thicker soft V on the Am Vintage 56 reissue. Just wondering if maybe the "thicker soft V" is the old "boat neck" specs.

Well I have a CS Time Machine '56 Strat Relic from 2007......and I also have the new AVRI '56 Strat. You probably referenced my post from a previous thread.

Anyway, the neck on the new AVRI '56 Strat is noticeably thicker and more rounded than on the CS version. Maybe some might consider it a "boat neck".......but bother guitars are supposed to have the '10/56 shape. At least according to Fender literature. All I know is that my particular AVRI '56 has a thicker and more rounded neck than my CS Time Machine '56 Relic. Having never played a CS Time Machine '56 Closet Classic or NOS, I can't say how the necks on those instruments compare.

I just got one of the new '56 AV models the other day. I can't speak for the previous TM model, but I have handled a few vintage '56's and the manager at my guitar shop has a friend who owns a vintage '56 and we both agreed the neck on the new model feels like the real, old-school deal. Their Fender rep also said that the new model is like the original as opposed to the 10/56 necks on the TM CS series which aren't as chunky. I'm sure some will disagree, but they are apparently two different necks, with this new model being more period-correct.

I played a 56 CS Relic in a music store near my home. It had the 10/56 V with 7.25" radius. The neck felt awesome. It wasn't too small and wasn't too big for my hands. Then I went and played a few CS Deluxe models were suppose to have the 10/56. These Deluxe models had modern appointments....9.5" radius, modern bridge and nut width. These deluxe models felt huge. The V was definately there but they just felt really wide across the fretboard as you get down to the 6 and 7th frets and on down past the 12th. I'm going to check out the AVRI 56 as soon as GC in Memphis gets one in. I called yesterday and they don't have any yet.

From what I read, the new AVRI are supposed to be more accurate recreations of the originals for the year they represent.
