I really like the Alnico 3 pickups in my Highway 1 but I would have to go Texes Specials out of your choices.

Tough choice, as you've listed a lot of great pups, and it would be difficult for me to limit myself to only one guitar. As others have noted, it depends on the sound/style that you are going for. Believe it or not, if I could only have one set, the Tex-Mex would be my favorite overall (limited to your list), considering the sounds that you can get at half the price of the others, with the Fat 50s being right up there with them. I'll just put your list in the order that I would like. I have owned all but the CS '69s, although I have tried them.

Tex-Mex
Fat '50s
CS Texas Specials
'57/'62s
Stock Strat pickups
Gold Lace Sensors
Vintage Noiseless
N3 Noiseless
Samarium Cobalt
CS '54s
CS '69s

I really like the pickups in Hwy 1, and with the tone pots and caps, it's a great sounding guitar, but not everyone's taste.

I would say fat 50's for my genre ...followed by Texas specials out f the list, but my first choice would be fenders 65 pups.

You know to make this post a little more informative how about we post the tones we are looking for out of our Strats?

As I said I like the Gold Lace sensors, the reason is this Strat is my clean machine. Think glass like tones, Dire Straits, clean Clapton, clean Buddy Guy, country pick'n, etc. The mid boost I am installing should give me "more" of the clean plus the ability to really drive the tube front end of my little Super Champ X2.

For harder tones I move to humbuckers.

Clean Buddy Guy is an Oxy Moron in my book.... He hates clean...

CS Texas Specials - Have tried, could take 'em or leave 'em
Fat '50s - Have one in the neck of one strat... love it!
CS '54s - n/a
CS '69s - n/a
Samarium Cobalt - n/a
Vintage Noiseless - n/a
Tex-Mex - AWESOME!... affordable and they sound great. The underdog winner!
'57/'62s - all around good pickup but not a favorite... I wouldn't swap 'em out if they came stock in something
Gold Lace Sensors - n/a
N3 Noiseless - n/a
Stock Strat pickups - too glassy for me

Best strat pickups I've ever used? Klein '65's... they pretty much rock the casbah!

Least favorite boutiques Fralin Blues Deluxe or whatever they're called... their version of the Texas Special I guess... they were glassy and sterile in the guitar I had them in. Maybe it was the guitar, maybe it was the pups but I wasted no time in replacing them (and the guitar)

Other pups of interest... I've had good luck with GFS pups. They're a good cheaper alternative but I didn't like 'em as well as Tex-Mexs

For Fender single coil pups I like the Fat 50s. A good all around composite of vintage style pups.

For Fender noiseless I prefer the VNs over any of the other Fender noiseless offerings. I find Lace pups to be honky and the newer Fender noiseless models to be brittle. They are a tad darker though.

For non-Fender noiseless Strat pups I like the Dimarzio Area line (thanks to some of our board members here for pointing them out to me)

For non-Fender Single coil Strat pups it's pretty hard to beat Lindy Fralin's Vintage Hot or Real 54s depending on how clean you want them to sound. The Blues set is quite popular as well but they lack sparkle and chime compared to the 54s.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

For non-Fender pickups I love a set of '90s era Van Zandt's that I have in my '79 Strat.

I had Lindy Fralin rewind a broken bridge pickup in my Muddy Waters Tele and it came back sounding different.

See if this works:

You can check out my other guitars while you are there. I don't have the Les Paul anymore. I never played it, so I traded (1-for-1) for a '98 PRS McCarty 10 top Model.

There's also a photo of my Candy Green Clapton and my home built Andy Summers Tele.
