Amazing job, Fender. It came set up perfectly, the pickups sound beautiful, the chunky neck is incredible, and the thin--yes, thin--finish is done to perfection. This guitar has the best-feeling neck I've ever played. It compliments my 1957 AVRI perfectly.

I'll try to get up some pics later, unless someone can tell me how to upload them from Facebook (if that's possible?).

get a photo bucket account (free) and upload the photos there..

then look for the little section in the right side UI where it says "IMG" click that, it will say "copied" (it copies the PB URL)

then paste that link in the space where you would add text to a new topic or topic reply

I have an account, just haven't had time to upload pics. Hope to do it in a few hours.

Beautiful, that's all one man would ever need. Oh and a saturday night special in the gun compartment in that case if things get rough.

Ha, ha. Yep!

Brownie has always been my favorite guitar. I neither have the cash nor the inclination to lay down $15K for a Clapton "Brownie" (relic stuff just isn't for me), but I was thrilled when Fender did a '56 with the new line of Vintage guitars. The color of the sunburst is great and the chunky neck is so awesome I'm pretty sure I'm smiling like a big idiot while I'm playing it.

Smiling like a big idiot while playing is the best part of buying a new guitar. That's a really nice instrument, all you need now is a matching Telecaster.

Congrats!

How does the neck of the '56 compare to the AMVR '57 in terms of V shape and thickness?

Ha.

I did play one of the new Teles yesterday. The craftsmanship is equally solid, and the neck was even thicker than my '56. I've never been a Tele guy, myself, so I think my '56's neck is safe where it is

Apples and oranges. My '57's neck is a soft V and skinny. The '56 is shaped somewhere between a C and a U and thick on the backside where the palm of your hand rests--same 7 1/4" radius obviously, but the shape change really makes a difference. It feels chunky, but in a really good way. I don't have large hands, either; so it isn't a hindrance. It feels more like a modern 9 1/2" when playing it--the strings don't have that squeezed together feel of my '57. I could immediately play faster, cleaner, and with more "space" for my fingers on the '56 neck. The higher frets are easier to work and do runs on than the compressed space of the '57.

I know first-hand now that they truly are two different guitars. The only hesitation I had (other than the price tag) when I was considering a Time Machine '56 some years back was the thick neck and my average-sized hands. I need not have worried. This neck is unbelievably easy and fun to play (which I understand isn't the same neck yet still comparable to the CS Time Machine '56).

I will take some neck pics of each and post them for comparisons over the weekend. Hopefully that'll give anyone who's curious a better idea of the differences in the necks.

Thanks for the information! Summarizing it looks like the new '56 neck is quite a bit chunkier than the '57. Surprised that the neck of the '56 also gives the impression of being/is a tad wider? Or maybe it's just the nut that is cut out a bit wider? Looking foreward to those pics!
