Hi :)

I have been playing guitar for about 1 year now, I can play slow songs like bb king style blues, chords and stuff, and picking songs like blackbird/junk.

Recently I bought a Fender 50s Precision MIM reissue (about 2 months ago) and I LOVED IT!! It was my first bass and it was such a joy to play with the new la bella 760fs i bought for it. I was VERY impressed with the build quality and sound (maybe I'm not as experienced in such things? It was my most expensive instrument ever)

A few days ago I felt like playing my guitar wasn't as fun as it used to be in the beginning and I started to wonder if I should go back to my chromatic harmonica again. After a while I realized what I was missing was that first initial experience when I played blues/rock riffs and enjoyed myself so I thought: Why not go back to the roots?

Anyway:
I'm planning to buy a new guitar now, about 500-600€tops, not more than that.
I have owned one of those 200$ crap cheap telecasters from a local brand (Supreme, sold only in a country-wide retailer here in sweden) and I plan on selling it. I also own a Ibanez AK95 which has a lovely tone, but is a real big semi-acoustic guitar so it feedbacks a lot and it's not the most comfortable guitar to play :/

I've been looking for a new guitar now, I first planned on a Gibson studio tribute but I heard a lot of bad things about them quality wize, then I thought: "why not buy a ES Epiphone?" and the I heard they are not as good as they used to be and that you couldn't really go that high with the dist/gain if you want to without feedback. Then I thought: "Ok, my Ibanez might have not been of the highest quality, but I've heard most people say Ibanez is better then Epiphone, so I went on a search and all I could find was heavy-metal guitars and 1 or 2 uninspiring solid body guitars.

So now I'm here. I'm wondering, what is the best tele/strat for my price range? (600€ max) I play everything. Pop, rock, blues, funk, indie, oriental, whatever. When it comes to blues I like BB King the most, followed by Buddy Guy and SVR (won't mention the old timers since they didn't use modern guitars to the extent)

Should I buy one for that price, or save and buy one for 1000€ ? I only play home (don't have a band) and I play through my yamaha THR10 amp, which suits me fine since I live in an apartment.

Thank you for your time :)

P.S. I live in Europe, so http://www.thomann.de is the place to go for me

An awful lot of generalised, and received hearsay opinion in your post. I find it difficult to believe feedback issues are related to guitar quality or type. My first tele was a chinese no brand, probably worth around $200 (paid more than that because Aus local pricing is more expensive than US/Eur). Rock solid guitar. Sounded good, set up well, stayed in tune. Finish was what you'd expect of a guitar of that price.

That said, a Mex start is probably what will suit. $$ doesn't guarantee extra quality. I know many will think differently, but of all the Mex and US strats I've tried (and that's not a huge amount, as I'm a left hander), they all sounded the same, build quality and finish was equal. Some neck felt different, but different coating and neck sizes will do that. Enough to make me happy with picking up a Mex fender when the time comes.

No I just meant that ES guitars usually had more feedback than solidbody guitars, isn't that 100% true? Atleast that's the issue with 90% of semi-acoustics like the ak95.

I've been looking around and I think I'm going to get either the Fender Classic Player ’50s Stratocaster or the '60s. Can't really make up my mind, none of them are available in my city so I can't check them out. Checking all of the youtube videos the 60s sound more like what I like to play but I heard its neck is a C or V shape or something like that, what does that mean?

You would be happy with either a mim strat or tele.

I played a cheap knock-off Telecaster clone one time that was prone to feedback and not the nice kind of feedback. I agree it's rare. Improbable but not impossible.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I was expecting a little more precise advices here guys, haha. I know MIMs are very good, but there are plenty of MIMs to choose from.

Well you asked if you should spend 600 euros or save up to get a more expensive one. I say you don't really need to. A standard IMO is good enough. Ultimately it's your choice. Best to try one out if you got a shop near by. You might find that you prefer the MIA. What I can say for myself is that I have very few complaints about my MIM standard Strat. All I did was swap the pups for a set of vintage style pups. Besides that it's totally stock. I've had it now for 5+ years.

What you are referring to is the neck profile.....what it would look like in cross-section. The Classic Player ’50s has a soft V shaped neck, thicker and less rounded than the C shape of the Classic Player 60's.

This really is something you want to try before buying....neck profile makes a big difference in comfort and playability and is a very personal thing. I love the soft V....others hate it.

Thanks!

I'll try and see if they have any other guitars with similar C and V shape dimensions so I can check them out, they usually only sell epiphones, some fenders, and gibsons. Are there any specific epiphone or gibson models that have a similiar C&V dimension on the necks that you know of?

I think a typical Epiphone LP would be similar to a c-shape. Most modern guitar necks are c-shaped. I don't think you'll find a V-shape in Epiphone. I can't recall seeing any other than some of the Fender Strats.

Some Strats with the V neck are:
Classic Player 50's
Eric Johnson
Eric Clapton
Am Deluxe V-Neck
Am Vintage '56
