The Stratocaster 12 just came! It came in a Fender Box with bubble wrap and some poly foam on the edges.
I found some residual glue on the upper outside bout but that's all.
The finish is perfect; :D very beautiful; 8) my first multi-colored Strat besides that blue paisley thing from the 80s.
The neck has that new tint they are using; very pleasing and warm.
Somewhat in tune; not surprised at it's being out a little (let's get real) coming form Japan.
The neck profile is pretty flat as is the fret radius, and the neck is way wider in comparison to my other Fenders.
Got the owner registration completed on line and whined to Fender on the phone about not having an owner's manual as the generic one fender uses is decididly NOT applicable to the Strat 12.
They have no publically available specifications as regards string height, neck relief, etc. This is somewhat perturbing.
I used to set up axes in Fairbanks years ago and with the cost of everything here in the states I'll be doing it again it seems.
Anyone have any Technical Specs on this? Maybe a website?

Well I just tore myself away from playing "The 12" ! Man it's just like a "first kiss" or falling in love again for the first time! What a SOUND!!!
I found it was tuned to E Flat (I think) because all the strings were reasonably equal in flatness... what a term....anyway (I'm so excited my hands are shaking!)

The tone straight through to my DSL 50 is NOTHING short of PHENOMENAL! All the reviews I read at Musician's Friend (www.musiciansfriend.com) we true; this is an absolutly outstanding axe!

Right out of the box!

The bridge is simple, easy to understand however I would not want to be the tech that sets the harmonics (intonation or fine tuning as Fender calls it here on the site) 6 of the saddles are not moved via screws but you loosen a set screw then move them back or forth then tighten; retune the string and check again; that's a pain in the ______ but it works.
What a full sound! Just incredable without any effects save the sound of the Mighty Marshall. No "lost strings" No Flat Spots on this neck.
Everything feels as it sould quality wise, the pots are smooth and quiet; the switch is the same.

While I haven't measured the neck or seen a spec it sure looks and feels wider but plays with the same ease as any other axe I have. The fret radius is almost flat but you can see a low to high curve left to right across the arc looking from the bridge to the nut.

So being somewhat a new 12 string owner (I have an acoustic and it's definatly stiffer for all the right reasons) is it reccomended that you keep these tuned 1/2 or a whole step lower than concert pitch? That would make it E Flat or D and use a capo to make up the difference? I know this will change the tone a lot too; like SRV...I wouldn't think the neck would be damaged as it's mush stouter than a stock neck...opinions?

I also read in the Musicians friend reviews on this axe that using the "rickenbacker gauge of strings really brings even more out of this axe... any comments?

Thank you all for your enthusiasm on my new gal; it is so cool to share this with so many that KNOW what a new axe is to a player!

Doug

The digital camera on the computer is down (my computer is down, I'm on the wife's) and the hand held one has a broken contact in the battery compartment so pictures are not possible yet; I have some fixing to do.

I'm not sure you need to keep a solid body 12 string tuned down a step. The main reason acoustic guitarists do this is because of the amazing tension on the bridge and top. You'll see lots of acoustic 12 string with minor bridge lifting or top warping. That shouldn't be a problem with a solid body electric.
