Hello everyone...

I just spent some time looking at a few american standard strats. I played a 2012 and a 2011. I know that the 2012 has the fat 50's pickups. I have heard demos of these pickups and love the sound. However, I played the 2011 and it was an amazing feel and sound. I actually preferred it to the 2012.

Do any of you have any info about what kind of pickups are in the 2011 guitar? I'd love to know any info about these specific pickups. They sound great. I'm am 99% sure that I am going to buy this guitar. I would love to have any info about these pickups though.

I have a 2008 MIA Standard and the Stock pickups I have are a bit different from the pre-2008 models. The pre-2008 KOhms are usually N6.2 M6.4 B7.5 or in that general area.

My 2008 model is a lot brighter sounding with readings of N5.76 M5.70 B 7.27. Have you a meter to measure the pickups with? Maybe Fender was trying a change with the pickup tone but decided on the CS Fat 50's instead for the new 2012 models. Or maybe I just got a set at the extreme of Fenders tolerance range.

And before the crowd gets their panties in a bunch. I know that the KOhms measurement does not really mean anything - but it is the best generalization that we have of the pickups potential tone range.

I am not complaining in the least, just the opposite, the pickups I have in my 2008 are really jangly and 50ish sounding. The Bridge has that bite you need to pull it all together.

Thanks for the replies. I am probably going to buy the guitar tonight. I am just one of those guys that wants to know all of the details before I buy. The feel of the guitar and the sound were just on another level.

I hear a lot of people raving about the Fat 50's, which is what I assumed that I would want, but this particular guitar just feels right to me.

My assessment of the 2011 pickups vs the Fat 50's were that the 2011's are definitely a bit higher output. I did not like the bridge pickup on the Fat 50's, and the 2011 Bridge pickup with any overdrive sounded waay better.

How do you all feel about the sounds that you get from the 2001 american standard pickups. Has it served you well for the styles of music that you all play? Just wondering.

Thanks, it is unbelievable how much combined knowledge is on these forums and how much love there is for great guitar sounds.
