Hi gang,

I'm FINALLY getting back to owning a Fender. It's been too long without one. I went in a very different direction than I had anticipated, but I think it should be a fun journey. On Saturday I will be picking up this beat to hell Highway One. Supposedly the relicing is 95% real working man's use, not a relic job per se. There's not a lot that I know about it other than it has a Warmoth neck with an ebony fretboard. Supposedly everything else is stock. Honestly I don't really care if other changes have been made to it. I've been told it sounds good and plays well from someone I trust (the second owner) so I'm good with it. Especially for only $400.

I'm not really finding other Highway One models that have this setup, other than ones that have already been modified. Does anybody know if stock models shipped with this config? I already know that I want to install Fender locking tuners. I figure the Warmoth neck will take those without issue. Not sure why or how it got a Fender decal on it. I'm all ears to any other mod suggestions out there. I play mostly blues and classic rock. Think Trower, Gilmour and some BB thrown in just to keep it interesting. I will be playing it through a Two Rock "Eric Gales" Sig Amp into a Forte 3D 1 x12 with a Scumback M75 for those that are wondering.

WARNING - RIDDEN HARD AND PUT AWAY WET (I normally don't name guitars, but this one goes by the name "Vulture". The guitar gave me the name, not the other way around.)

But this is how it looks now.

The pickups in this kick $@!.
I would install the stock nut back into it.
Put in locking tuners and a Blade Runner Tremolo.
It will stay in tune nice

Thanks guys. I should have mentioned I'm not really a trem guy, but I do understand the benefits of having a good tremolo even if you don't use it. With that in mind would you still suggest that model?

Forgot to ask, did I get an OK deal on this? I know it's not a garage sale special, but I'm hoping the price ($400) is in the right area code.

Thx again!

I agree he says he is not a trem user the rest of the guitar is real nice only thing I did was change the color of my plastics.
I swopped the pickup for a different color but same deal.
The Grease Bucket tone circuit is awesome.
Mine is a personal fav.

As the proud owner of 9 (!!??!)( the entire color spectrum of the series!) Highway One Stratocaster HSS's.(what can I say...I LOVE them!!)....all heavily modified....here's my list of MUST DO's:
1: change ALL pickups.....they honestly SUCK!!
2: Change the crappy Ping tuners to Fender/Schaller locking tuners,,,a drop in replacement.
3: I've put GraphTech String Saver saddles on mine and LOVE them!
4: I've also put Brass Bridge Blocks from Guitar Fetish on most of them...
These babies are all now AWESOME, stage ready guitars that I get constant compliments on tone from non musicians and musicians alike.....
A modest extra cost of about $350.00 that brings the total cost of the instrument to around $1100.00. Far less than you'd pay for a custom shop guitar with similar appointments.

Wow, that's quite a collection!!

Locking tuners are a must for me. The silly part is that I had a set of locking tuners that I was going to put on a Fender VG Strat, but I ended up selling it and then sold the tuners as well.

I will of course play the guitar as is to begin with. I figure if someone liked this one enough to gig it across the country and back a few times there must be some mojo hidden away inside it. I'm buying it sight unseen and unheard. I don't normally do that with most brands, but I figure I can't go too wrong.

Once I have had it a few days and put it through its paces I will come back with an update of how she plays and sounds. This is quite the opposite of what I've been playing the last few years, which is mostly a brand that starts with Paul and ends in Smith. Assuming I like it I plan on having fun with it and fine tuning it as time goes by. No rush to mod it, other than the tuners - at least at this point.

Lastly it's very nice to find another helpful forum!!!

I really liked the Alnico 3s thought they were a cool alternative to my Alnico 5 89 Standards.
I have Dimarzio humbucking stacks in the American Deluxe Injecter Neck Area 61 Middle.
The Original Highway 1 Humbucker I changed first for a Dimarzio Evolution then to a Fender Hot Rod, an Alnico 5 16.5 ohm bridge pickup in aged white.
