Hi everybody!
I´ve bought this used Fender Stevie Ray Vaughan Signature Stratocaster (photos below) and the 1st owner drilled an ugly small hole on the pickguard to get easy access to truss rod ajustment. In my opinion it was a st upid decision... Well, now I´ve got this babe and I´m in love with it. It also has a small scratch on it´s body, but this can be easyly fixed. And The original left handed trmolo arm was missing. I couldn´t find a LH one and installed this right handed one.

Well I wonder if anybody knows where a can buy a new SRV engraved pickguard. I´ve searched on ebay but I couldn´t find any.

Can you help me, please?
Thanx in advance!
Fabricio

Check out the eBay seller Stratosphere. He specializes in parted-out guitars.

The white pickguard on my AVRI has the same modification. It doesn't appear to be very noticeable on a black pickguard like yours. And that little notch sure has made adjustments easier over the last 27 years.

It's a choice you'll have to make...if you don't want that small access hole , then the only way to adjust the truss rod is to loosen the screws, pop the neck upwards and torque on the truss rod adjustment. Doing that while the neck is loose and tilted up for access puts undue stress on the screws and more importantly the screw holes.

It usually goes like this..... Loosen the neck screws....tilt neck up,,, torque on truss rod....retighten neck screws, check relief with strings tensioned....release strings ....release screws once again...torque on truss rod....retighten screws again ....Repeat as needed ...

This little scenario is what goes on at the shop and if the tech at GC is less than caring, let's just say the guitar is not designed to be screwed in and out repeatedly..
I would just live with it..Your guitar will thank you for years to come...

Those pichguards show up every now and then, just keep looking!

I personally wouldn't care about that hole at all. On the contrary: I'd be happy to have easier access to the neck heel trussrod adjustment nut (which I hate!), without breaking my head about drilling a hole because it's already there!

You can't even recognize it from a meter away.

It also doesn't matter which trem arm you use since it's gonna be in the way anyway.
That being said, you'll have to adjust to the different trem arm position anyway, so it won't make a big difference in how much you have to adapt.

Thank you guys (Specialy Voodoo Blues)!
I want to keep my SRV Strat as original as possible. And the ugly hole badly made on it devalues it.
I´ve sent a question to the ebay seller, but I think he can´t help me(I think I´ve asked him before)...
So if you have any tip (stores that sell it separetely from the guitar) or a contact at fender factory, I appreciate!!!

By the way, this badly made hole doesn´t help on ajusting the truss rod... You need to tilt neck up anyway. As I said, the old owner took a stupid decision when he made this hole.

Best wishes!

+1

I'd rather set the scratch plate aside and put on a blank black one... Save the SRV one for resale or showing off. Besides, SRV did not have his initials engraved on his, he used stickers found at truck stops...

As far as value goes, I wouldn't worry about it. They run around $1,000 give or take a $100 on the used market despite any wear and tear. Adding some extra mojo doesn't hurt a bit ether. I don't think SRV was worried too much about the finish on his guitar, it shows the years of hard work worn into the guitar.
