Hi I'm new here. Just started playing electric about a month ago. Though the bullet strat HSS would be a good start. Just yesterday my high-e snapped. So I came to the issue bout buying new strings. I play a lot of Seether, and Slipknot and other heavy metal and grunge bands. In essence, I play a bunch of songs in drop tuning. So after a while of looking through which string to buy, I came across these: http://www.long-mcquade.com/products/12 ... _10-46.htm DR - Drop Down Tuning Electric Strings. The ones I need are 11-54. They are stainless steel and uncoated. These are the questions I have: Are these good strings for me? Will my fingers adjust alright because these are really hard/thick strings? Will these strings last long? Are these strings good for my guitar?

That's about it.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could help a bud out because I'm pretty new to this and I really want to know if these are good quality strings. And if not, I'd also appreciate if anyone could tell me which strings are good for me and my guitar.

Thanks so much. :)

Another quick thing, I play about 1-2 hours a day. And a total of about 5 hours on weekends.

Hey there

11-54's should be absolutely fine if you're planning on tuning down to Drop B (Slipknot's main tuning), your fingers will be fine although one thing is that it will probably be a bit harder for you to bend strings with the heavier gauges and you may develop some extra calluses also but it won't hurt you in any way or make playing more difficult (other than bending, as I said), bass players play with much larger strings than us and it doesn't really make any difference.

The strings should last fine unless (like me) you are a person who gets sweaty hands more often, in that case I would recommend you get some coated strings such as Elixirs, these are the strings I use and they last for ages (although cleaning them still isn't a bad idea).
But DR's are a well known brand and they make a good quality product used by heaps of artists if the sweat thing isn't a problem for you.

Lastly, the only thing I can really thing of that will happen to your guitar is that they might not quite sit in the nut properly (the plastic thing in between the headstock and the first fret) in which case your intonation may be slightly off, but this shouldn't be an enormous deal. And also that the vibrato arm (whammy bar, tremolo) will be harder to use simply because the strings have more weight behind them in comparison to the spring counterbalance in the back of you guitar.

Hope this helped

:)

Thanks so much! I ended up going with the EB Not Even Slinky the 12s. Haha they're really nice. I love em. Thanks again!
