I love this guitar. I bought it new, and have had it almost a year. But in the last 2 months, the paint has actually starting flaking/ chipping off. It started with a few small dings, and then anytime it got rubbed against something, more paint chips would come off. If I drag my pick across the edge of the paint, little flakes come away. Sometimes even my sweater will do it. The guitar isn't heavily gigged with- Anyone have this happen to them?

I can actually scratch the paint off with my thumbnail. It's _thin_. I spent months setting the guitar up. Callaham bridge, Seymour Duncan Antiquity II pups, work on the nut, the action, shielding on the cavity and pickguard... It plays like a dream. Relic is one thing, but I'm guessing half the paint will be gone by this time next year. There are two other spots on the guitar that ar similarly large, and several other chips that are starting to grow.

Contact consumerrelations@fender.com.

Read the warranty carefully:

http://support.fender.com/warranty/FEND ... 1_revC.pdf

"Damage to finishes or cracks, splitting, or warpage of wood due to changes in temperature or humidity, exposure to or contact with sun, fire, moisture, body salts and acids of perspiration, guitar straps, guitar stands/hangers made from vinyl, plastic, rubber or other synthetic materials, any other chemicals or non-Fender-approved polishes."

Good luck.

My sentiments exactly. Although I'd expect the finish to last a little longer. Still nitro isn't as durable as urethane, it should have at least a bit more durability than that

Some people pay big money for that. I have an '06Hwy1 and it hasn't worn away yet.

I was going to say too, there aren't that many on here that wouldn't love for that to happen to their strats. In this case it appears the nitro wasn't cured or the body wasn't primed. I still like it regardless

looks like faulty paint to me. i assume the patch on the underneath of the guitar is from resting it on your leg and sitting down. unless you're wearing sandpaper trousers theres no way that wear should be happeneing.

to me it doesnt look like 'normal' wear, if you're not happy with it definitely try get something done about it.

I'd be inclined to agree that there's something wrong with the nitro formulation there, I've never seen a guitar finish wear down that quickly. Contact Fender, you may find that it's a known issue on a certain batch.

It hangs on the wall in my bedroom with my other guitars. Temperature has always been between 65-75 degrees. Has been out of the house maybe 4 times.

That does not appear to be a result of any of the warranty exclusions and would seem Fender would want to assess cause for possible warranty coverage. Assuming you follow through by contacting Fender (directly) or indirectly, through the place where you bought it, please post the outcome.

My best friend has an '07 Hwy1 I got him that he wants to look all beat up. So he leaves it out of case (even when traveling) and doesn't care what he bumps into.

If that's just from normal use there's a problem. You need to contact someone about it. I don't mind reliced guitars but its supposed to happen over years of use.

1) Don't pick at it - i.e. don't exacerbate it

2) That's messed up

That's looks awful, call Fender and ask for an economical resolution. Have you a receipt etc?

I bet there are many on here, including myself, that would gladly trade our nearly perfect condition Stratocaster bodies for your if Fender doesn't help. Just saying. :D

My Sunburst 2009 AVRI hasn't done this. The finish on the body looks as new as the day I bought it and I even play numerous hours over the course of several days without cleaning or polishing it. Of course it never goes outside.

Maybe the dings started the paint chipping; it is bound to happen with that nitro finish. You can contact Fender, but if it started as "dings" you're probably out of luck. I'd personally just play it and ignore it; after all, part of the allure of Vintage-style guitars is the effect you're getting. Unless it just starts falling off in chunks, that is.
