So I've noticed lately that there are a lot of non-guitar topics hitting the forum. Any idea what this is about?

I used, "non-guitar" because I've seen it in other areas of the forum. I just happened to see it last in the Stratocaster section. Sorry to confuse anyone.

Not a problem. I see that you own a Les Paul Custom. Do you like it? I've owned a few Les Pauls and found that I really didn't like them. I ended up trading my LP Std. for a '98 PRS McCarty 10 top model. I did play a LP gold top with P-90s and liked that, but the guy wasn't willing to do any trading.

I'm also big fan of the Hwy1. I have a black w/ black parts and maple neck that I changed out the pups for CS '69s. It's my late '60s/'70s Strat, which I love for early Heavy Metal.

There's obviously some new software available to spammers which allows them to automatically grab some snippets from current news stories and apply them to the titles and content of posts. I suppose the idea is it catches our eye so we open the thread and then are tempted to click on the links somewhere in the post - which is the real object of the exercise.

Oddly, at the moment these types of spam always seem to come in threes with similar randomly generated usernames, so they are especially easy to spot and avoid. Which seems self-defeating from their point of view but useful for us.

And you're right, there seems to be ever more spam. We used to sometimes enjoy ourselves here posting humorous replies to spam threads but now there's so much it isn't worth the effort anymore.

And Brad has asked us to just report and then ignore it.

Cheers - C

Although no one is responding, many still read the collective drivel. Consequently, this is not ignoring it but continuing to encourage it.

As always...

This is true - and someone somewhere must be clicking on their links, and so their incentive to continue... er, continues.

The spammers' mindset: "if we send 58 million spams and one person responds then it was all worth it." Depressing, huh?

Cheers - C

Evidently, there are a goodly amount here who are in fact, repeatedly interested in spite of what it inherently is. This is even more depressing.

As do most of us but as I've said, apparently there's a faction here who consistently find that blather interesting.

I thought spammers were people who over-indulge in Spam??? And they get 58 million cans of Spam if just one person responds??? WOW!! So this means on the Forum no more threads about: Marmite, Veggiemite, Veggiemates, Dark Beer, Bovril, and EVEN SPAM??? Man the Fender Forum is headed in the wrong direction. :( We will end up talking about guitars and most likely, even Strats????
