Too bad...I was afraid it was too good to be true. My friend still wants it made more playable....new VN pups, new CTS 250K pots, with new knobs, a new trem bridge and some Schaller locking tuners should help. The frets cleaned up nicely, so no re-fret needed. This neck sure feels nice, even if it's not the one that came with this probably Japanese body....more pics to follow when it's done....Thanks for being so helpful guys...always best to know the truth...and, by the way, why would anyone spray battery acid on electronics? That seems (smells) like what the corrosion is....yuk!

1M pots are specified for Fender's VN pickups -- you might wish to consult with your client to confirm his choice.

According to Martian, the 250's work better....I'm using a .1 PIO cap instead of the .22, though.

Exposing the metal parts to muratic acid fumes will give them the "aged" look. If you put the metal parts in a large sealed container, with a smaller open container of muratic acid next to the metal parts inside the sealed container, the fumes will corrode the metal parts in just a few hours. Looks like the saddles were left exposed a little too long. You have to be careful, because if you get even a small whiff of the acid fumes it can burn your throat and lungs. :!:

Yeah, the saddles are discolored for sure, but they don't smell. Maybe whoever did this cleaned the saddles so as to not disolve the strings... The old pots & wiring stunk pretty bad, though. All replaced now. I'll get some pics posted soon. I cleaned the back of the pickguard and inside the rout before shielding it, but the faint odor of acid still lingers...This guitar now plays like a dream & sounds great! I really like the VN's and will use them again for sure. Hard to believe this neck is'nt vintage. No cap, by the way. Solid maple with the skunk stripe.
