So here's the plan... I'm in the process of unloading the American Standard body & electronics I've had attached to my American Special neck and just got a natural finish American Special body that I'm going to rig up like the H/S/S strat I already have. I'm opting for a '76ish theme with the black guard and white pickups and knobs. The neck and middle pups are Tex-Mex and the bridge is a Dimarzio Duper Distortion with a coil split toggle. I love the other strat I have with this setup so decided to duplicate it. I'm curious to see what if any tonal difference I'll see between the rosewood/alder and ash/maple versions of the same wiring setup. I'm guessing this new one will be a little brighter and perhaps more articulate but we'll see. I'll post a real picture or video once I get it wired up and ready to rock! 8)

When you get finished, you can make me one. That looks really nice. Been wanting one like this for a while.

 I'm happy to post the wiring diagram... here's a look at the other one I have that's similar. This one has a "neck on" toggle that I'm not going to add to the new one... it gets in the way of volume swells with your pinky. It is cool to be able to flip the neck pickup on though... it actually makes for some pretty cool and useable additional tones. I like the low profile hum bucker look... fading the black coil in with the guard. Anyhow...

OK, I want a wiring diagram. I've been wanting to add a "neck on" toggle on a strat of mine for a while. Ive got it wired as 1 volume and 1 tone currently with one hole available and thought it would be cool to put the toggle in to replace the pot.

That sunburst looks really good by the way.

I'll try and dig up the diagram I used or post a link. It works well but does influence the overall tone when engaged. Not in a bad way, intact, I like the effect it has on the sound of things.

The body is an MJT finished body... I love it!

Well... after poking around I can't find the one I used but I'm going to be using this one as a basis this go-round

Then of course this is handy too... unless you're using a Seymour Duncan pickup as the wiring colors are all different for different pickups.

As far as choice of pickups for me, there's been a slight change of plans due to a meathead seller on eBay who mailed a Tex-Mex Tele neck pickup instead of a Tex-Mex Strat pickup. I'm going to simply cut my losses and resell the thing myself on eBay. I then decided to try a Fat 50's neck pickup instead as I found one for about the same $$$. So... the configuration will be Fat 50's (N), Tex-Mex (M), Super Distortion (B).... hopefully they'll all play nice together.

Looks like a great idea, might suggest a push/pull pt to split the humbucker...

I already have a mini toggle left over from the last similar project... I have no qualms about drilling the hole for it. Do you suggest this for any reason in particular? I know many opt for the "secret" hot rod look but the humbucker already kills it in this case.

So far so good... I'm just waiting on the middle pup and then I can finish up wiring, assembly, and set-up... then we're off to the races! 8)

This setup reminds me of Robbie Robertson's Strat.

Well... things are together but somethings up. First of all, it's as though there's been a curse on the pickups of this project from the get go. When I first ordered it the middle pickup, I actually lost or perhaps threw it out... it still hasn't surfaced and I rarely lose things. So somewhere here in the house or the shop there's a pickup (or perhaps the dump?) The first neck pickup I ordered was a Tex-Mex but they shipped the tele version... so I was supposed to be refunded via paypal. I decided to just go ahead and order another neck pickup but instead of being refunded, they sent the correct pickup. So those two are not posted on ebay. THEN, yesterday I finally received the middle pickup I'd ordered and it turned out to be an American std pup, not a tex-mex. I know many people swear they're the same but I don't buy it. I decided, what the heck, I'll just install it. So before reassembly I tested it (plugged it in and gently tapped the poles with a screw driver) and it seemed all good.

Well... it's not exactly all good. The neck sounds great. The bridge sounds great. Alone, the middle sounds fine as does the middle/bridge combo but the neck/middle combo sounds out of phase to me and I'm not sure wheat I mis-wired.

SO... it plays great but it still needs some work. I love that neck/middle combo and need to address the situation or this guitar will likely not get much play time. I'm just not sure where my wiring went wrong... :?:

Here she is...
