Looking for a bit more detail on the characteristics of these PUs. Such as, what are they based on? A hot Texas? Is Mike around?

I recently purchased the 2011 CS Deluxe, in 3 colour sun burst, bought it new from a local dealer. I'm amazed that it sat in the store for two years given how beautiful it is, with the high grain ash body and the AA birds eye maple neck and birds eye fret board. And, it was marked down $400 to boot.

I'm not sure how I feel about the PUs though. They seem a bit bright to me. At first, I really liked them, but now I am not so sure. The last Strat that I had was a 2009 American Deluxe, and I was not really a fan of those SNC PUs, and I never really used the S-1 switch either.

When I went looking for a new guitar, I compared the CS Deluxe to the 2009 that I had and to the 2013 American Deluxe with V neck and the CS won hands down. The more time that I spend with it though the more I wonder if I'd be happier with a more vintage PU set, like the CS 69s. Otherwise, I love the guitar. The neck just mighht be the finest neck I have ever had the pleasure to play, a big C profile that fits my hand like it was made for me. This is my first guitar with a polyurethane finish too. I don't see what all the controversy is about. That finish will definitely assist in protecting that gorgeous wood underneath it. Cheers.

As far as I know, the team-built deluxe has a Texas Special bridge pup and two CS 69s, the middle being reverse wound. I have the earlier Custom Classic and can recommend the pickups from these - Modern Classic/ Hot Classic bridge. They're not available separately. I'm sure they can be found though from a dismantled parts seller.
Also, I wasn't aware that the Deluxe has a Polyurethane finish (not that there's anything wrong with that).
They are nice guitars.
Goodonya ...Mark.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions Mark. I'm actually waiting on a reply from Fender, either Mike E or someone else. I called Fender today and there appears to be conflicting info as to what PUs are in it (I find that a bit tardy). One set of info suggests that they are Master build by Cruze (or at least designed by him), and the other set of info suggests that they are Texas Specials, and now you are presenting something totally different! I think it might be the rating of them that I am not totally comfortable with as they are a bit hotter than a set of CS 69s, and more so than the SNCs that were in my 2009 Deluxe. Then again, I am also willing to concede that it might also be a case of getting use to a PU set that is quite different than what I am use to. I bought the guitar more for the feel than the sound, though I did really like the tone. But, it is also really hard to ascertain the tone from a guitar in a guitar shop, with all of the other ambient noise and all. I had to go back twice, and the second time I brought one of my amps in so that I could have a point of reference.

And yes, it does have polyurethane on it. To be honest, I played accoustic guitar for most of my guitar playing life and only got into electrics 3 years ago, and the accoustics I had were not that great anyways.

During that time I never paid attention to what they were finished with. Even in the last three years, while I continuously hear about guitars finished with nitro, I never gave a second thought to what that meant, other than they smelt like candy, they were thin finishes, vintage in terms of style, and wear easily. So I go into a local store on the prowl for a Strat and see this one. I pick it up, and it is the feel that immediately gets me. The neck is cut like it was made for my hands, and the grain is all over it, the AA birds eye neck, fret board and the in-your-face grain of the ash body is just outstanding. It's hefty too, what I like.

The tone was secondary (PUs can always be changed), and the finish did not even register. It didn't feel any different to my other guitars in that regard. The neck is as slick as wet marble, much like the neck on my AV 52 Hot Rod, or my 00028 Martin, both of which are finished in nitro. It was not until I got home and tried to find info on it, only to realize that because it is a 2011 model that the info is more archived, that led me on a pusuit of what it is really made of. That is where I found out about urethane (I've since - yesterday - read about a dozen articles on the pros and cons of nitro vs urethane), and the uncertainties of the PU type. It's tough, but I have already come to realize that it is definitely not completely resistent!
