I have a strat guitar and the body has the coin stamp on the back that says original fender body. Is there anyone that can give me more info on it and maybe how much it is worth.

Well that coin medallion means the body was a replacement body made by Fender back when they were still selling replacement parts.

If you're talking about the value of the body, then it's probably a $100-$200 hundred dollars. If you're talking about the value of your entire guitar, then it would really depend on the other hardware (who built the neck, who built the pickups, etc.). We would need a bit more info to try to value the entire guitar - and photos would be helpful.

Thanks for the reply. The rest of the guitar is just about all fender parts except the bridge. I need to sell it but i know i cannot sell it as "original". So i might be better off as selling it as parts. Thanks.

I definitely disagree with the value being between "$100-$200 hundred dollars". These necks and bodies were made and sold by Fender and they have the coin stamp as an identifier that is was made in the USA. These bodies and necks are closer to the $300-$400 for the body and $500-$700 for the neck.
The cheapest Indonesian and Chinese made bodies sell used for $75-$150.

I do agree that more info is needed to give an accurate appraisal. My estimate is from past sales and personal experience. Anytime a used part is being appraised it should be done so on a case by case basis.

I thought those medallions were only on the CBS-era replacement bodies - hence the low value. If they were on the 1990s bodies as well then I stand corrected.

FMI made bodies and necks available for selected models up through 2002 when they were dropped as a cataloged item. This cartouche was used on the reverse side of the replacement necks' headstock......

Check the Fender store you will see you can buy new necks $199 and bodies go $399 up.

The replacement Body for my FSR Ltd. Ed. Am. Vtg. '57 Stratocaster doesn't have any marks indicating that it's a replacement part.

Now, this was a one-off Warranty replacement. The wood was hand-selected (2-piece) by Fender who assigned one guy in Corona (Erik - Production Supervisor, Fender Corona) to personally walk it through each phase of production.

Image

The finished body was just received at the Gold Tech Authorized Service Center - Charles A. Hoffman Handmade Guitars on Friday, and they called me to come, inspect and approve the body before reassembly.

The Body is spot-on perfect, but they even over-sprayed the production date of Nov. 14, 2013 which is stamped on the right side of the neck cavity in the pic, eliminating any evidence that this body was replaced. 8)

I have fully documented this warranty body replacement so as to protect any future value of this guitar (1 of 46 produced), but a buyer would have no indication that the body was replaced if I didn't say anything.

Fender did a great job w/ this Body. My anticipation level is so high at the prospect of getting my Stratocaster back that I think I'm developing a rash !

I may even have it by Christmas Eve !! :D :D :D

cheers!

The current US replacement necks have the stamp on the heel. Only the serial number is put on the rear of the headstock.

Just two months after purchasing this guitar, the 'spread' (Fender parlance for a multi-piece Body) started moving and caused the finish to split/crack axially (not checking).

Fender had me take the guitar to their local Gold Tech Authorized Service Center - Charles A. Hoffman Handmade Guitars for evaluation. Hoffmans confirmed the defect and Fender agreed to replace the Body.

In truth, I'm getting an even better guitar than the original as this 2-piece Body will be more stable and give better resonance than a 3 or 4-piece one.

cheers!

Here are the pics of the finished body before reassembly by the Gold Tech at Hoffmans.

I think it looks amazing !

I would be remiss if I didn't mention those people at Fender who did such an excellent job on this Body as well as all the service and courtesy extended to me throughout this warranty issue.

In addition to our own Rob Schwarz - Director, Customer Service (Scottsdale), there was Austin Bingham - Stringed Instrument Support Technician (Scottsdale) and Erik Soto - Production Supervisor (Corona) (Erik also signed the mid-pup cavity).

A Huge THANK-YOU to you all !

If anyone complains about Fender's Customer Service, they're gonna get a big arguement from me !!

cheers!
