A V-neck is V shaped where the neck meets the body
A C-neck is rounded. here is a pic of a V-neck

I've never really felt comfortable with the V-neck shape. Personally a chunky C-neck will always be good for me.

I gotta say my favorite fender neck is the one they use for the EJ strat. A healthy 12 inch radius, V shape moving down to a soft C. To me thats the best feeling Fender neck I've ever put my hands on.....and I've put my hands on hundreds of em. Guess that makes me a Fender molester.

I like the "C" necks too. More comfortable to me.

Ever wonder why Clapton maintained the V-neck when he and Fender designed the first signature series guitar ever for him in the late 80's.
He had been playing Gibsons earlier.

For me, my fretting hand is not comfortable close to the neck joint with the flatter profile of the modern C-shape. I get more support in the span between my thumb and index finger with the V-neck.

You can find the specs in the products section of Fender Online in the Artist Series guitars .

If my memory serves me correctly it is a '59 D-profile with a 12 radius. I auditioned that guitar several times but could never find comfort in that neck...so....I built a guitar finished like it.

I like the v but am not very particular with the neck shape to be honest. If it plays good I like it.

Hello, fair friends of Fender.

After a time of quiet contemplation, I committed to googling "c-neck vs v-neck," and I was whisked away and deposited soundly right here in this very thread.

I've become interested in this topic since buying a 50th anniversary American Deluxe Stratocaster in 2004. This was the one with the v-neck and the SCN pickups, honey blonde with a metallic brown pickguard (can't remember the name for the colour and on this weary morning, my indolence precludes a quick google, you see). Hopefully you know which one I'm jawing about.

Here in 2010, going on 2011, I've concluded that I like neither the SCN pickups nor the v-neck profile. It might just be my misconception, but I think when playing chords for a long time on the v-neck, I have a bit less endurance than doing so on a Mustang for the same amount of time because the v-neck stresses my hand a bit more. I can't really say why, but this is what I am thinking right now.

Yea, but is my comparison flawed, as the scale lengths are so different? Could be. My Les Paul studio, with it's relatively short scale, too so spares me the vexation and torment posed by the American Deluxe aggressor neck.

The thing is, my CIJ Jazzmaster, about the neck of which I am as ignorant as a scullery maid, but aware that its thickness eclipses the v-neck, also agitates my weak and ladylike hand. What do to? I suppose I should sober up one day and venture forth from this mausoleum to purchase a C-neck Stratocaster...

I came here hoping to see at least one or two posts from proud champions of the v-neck, who might provoke me to dispel my wayward imaginings, but I am not seeing too much of that. So my fears yet stir and my soul remains agitated, restless...

Is there not one among you who will stand up to herald the indomitable might of the brave and noble v-neck, and to curse the c-neck and its philistine barkers?

C neck. Had a go on a V neck once and it didn't suit me. It was uncomfortable when playing barre chords and it seemed to 'push' my thumb away from the middle of the neck.
