I posted elsewhere about the ongoing one fret buzz issue with my left handed '87 MIJ Strat.

I was thinking a new neck could be a possible fix, having exhausted everything else, and stumped a luthier in the process.

What do people think of these?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lefty-Strat-Nec ... 53f45f32d5

I know necks can cost $2-600 for Deluxe ones from various sources, but these are FEnder licensed too, and my guitar isn't high end. I don't any to sink more money into fixing this than I have to.

I would at least go for a licensed neck by one of the well known companies with good reputation.
I never heard of this company.

I'd go for a standard Warmoth neck.

Allparts makes licensed Fender necks, too but I have no experience with any parts from them.

Or: get a used one.

what you pay for a new neck, you could have yours fixed.

Been there done that, see my fret rattle thread. A Luthier pro set up, service, and fret dressing didn't fix it (he didn't charge for this, so I've had $220 worth of work done, for $60).

Luthier can't even guarantee a full re-fret will. That's $400 right there for a refret.

Thanks, but mine's already 'used' as part of the guitar, and this is what i'm having to deal with. I don't want to have to spend money on a used neck too if it needs work.

If it needs work, you can give it back.
Either because the seller didn't tell the truth or because the seller is a commercial salesman and HAS TO take it back within a certain amount of time.

Of course it's always a risk to buy used.

Get a new one then.
Just look at it this way: nobody will buy a rattling guitar!
Buying a new guitar would cost you even more!

So: get a new neck and you'll be happy. :)
A new Warmoth neck (i.e.) is something around 230 dollars, if I remember correctly.
If it finally makes the guitar play correctly, which then again will make you happy, then go for it.

Of course it's annoying to already have put in lots of effort and money but I wouldn't go for some unknown company with no reputation, just to save 100 bucks and end up with junk again.
After all, "licensed" can mean anything!! Maybe just the permission to use neck heel dimensions and headstock shape (so they'll fit Fenders) but the rest of the neck might be junk?
I don't know, do you?

Before you decide, search for customer reviews.

I really like the Mighty Mite rosewood board necks. The board is more than twice the thickness of the Fender version, really like the old slab boards of the mid 1960s. If I was going to build a guitar from scratch it'd be Mighty Mite body and neck, Fender hardware and CS pickups or Bare Knuckles.

Oh yeah, and this finish ... http://www.wudtone.com/2012/03/20/wud2t ... urst-sold/

That's why I'm asking. I've not heard of them, you haven't either, but others might have.

Mighty Mite necks are okay - I used one a couple of years ago on a squier that had been left in a loft for 10 years, and the neck had just curled up and died. My father in law regularly gigs with that guitar and the neck is still in good nick. It was well finished when I got it too, just needed a little rub down with some wooly wire.

YMMV

If it were that easy, I would.

First, it's a lefty and that reduces my market considerably.
Even if I could sell it locally, there's nothing I can afford new, and I'm not buying online and taking a punt.
Here in Aus we pay premium prices. Selling this on ebay, I'd lose more than the cost of a full re-fret (which can't be guaranteed to fix it either).
I'd be lucky to get $450 on a trade-in, and the only things available are Am Stds. With RRP here of $1800.

I'm not prepared to lose this sort of money. Hence the post about a new neck.

I agree Warmoth is the best place to get aftermarket strat wood parts.

The Stratosphere has lots of Fender necks on ebay they are a great company with awesome feedback.
