Ceri or Xhefri.... Any experience with applying a transparent blonde finish on bodies  :?:

Never done it.

However. Ron Kirn has one of the truly excellent guitar build threads anywhere on the internet over on his website, and somewhere around page three he does a Honey Blonde finish:

http://www.ronkirn.com/tutorial/index.htm

It's so well worth reading every word of that build. Fabulous photos and masses of detail on prepping, spraying and even mixing up the Blonde lacquer.

Kirn's work is brilliant and so is his site.

Alternatively, of course Reranch and others sell Honey Blonde in an aerosol and if I was only going to do it once I'd happily go that route.

Options.

Cheers - C

Hmmm...Here it is three or so days after Ceri passes on the Ron Kirn Web link and ...
Well we know what happens when we find a web site that we like ....

OK so Ceri to answer your question my total cost for the 7 foot x 13" 3/4 x 1"7/8 ash baulk was about $115.00. I also have access to a stash of Black Walnut that was cut about 40 years ago along with some Figured Maple of the same period....

As for my progress I am about to redo and cut new templates for both the Strat's and the Tele projects so this will take up the next few days....

is the blank big enough to make a jaguar/jazzmaster ? something a bit different.

also i agree witht he above. if i had the ability to make my own guitars, id be busting a nut to produce something totally unique. pickup configs that fender rarely if ever use would be my first port of call.

Keep in mind that a string oscillates in a wave form with troughs and crests from nut to saddle.
So the pickup pole piecesmust take advantage of where the the troughs and crests peak and bottom out for the best location in the electromagnetic field that a pick up produces.

I'm pretty much sold on the 3 pick up location of a Strat which in itself allows multiple combinations. They can all be single coils or stacked Humbuckers or a combination of either, as for the traditional HB, I like it in the Bridge location but not in the mid or neck location.
On a Tele it's different since the layout is also quite different bridge and electronically..
But nothing is decided as final.
I do have to add that the style of music I play and listen to demands a clearer tone than a conventional HB is capable of producing, hence why I prefer single coils or stacked HB's..

Long overdue update.... Major Bump....

I have completed all the templates needed for both the Stratopartsters and the Telepartsters... I have actually just routed out the walnut Telepartster for all the rear accessed pups, neck pocket, controls...

My apologies as pics will not be submitted as my G4 Mac has died and I am currently using an older HP laptop with Windows XP. Needless to say I detest Windows and it's Labyrinth format. The HP was at one point a network PC which has Gremlins that render photo uploading quite risk averse.. It shuts down unexpectedly as well as popping up a message warning of other network users connected ....  :?:

Soon we'll have the Mac back from repair and life will be returning to normal
