This is just a tease of things to come ..... I posted in another one of my build threads about this Ash baulk I had found at a local lumber yard.
It was enough to cut out 4 blanks .
One I gave to a friend in exchange for the Texas Specials pups,
One is still undecided but will probably become a Precision Bass .... ( I need a Bass again )

The other two will become Two Stratopartsters, both in a clear finish, One possibly Maple neck and the other Ebony or Rosewood....

So as this is very early preliminary planning I will take some serious suggestions from knowledgeable Forumites as to potential layout. Bear in mind that there are restrictions as these will be back loaded and no pick guards. Standard SSS pup layout, Vintage Trem ( although I may consider One to be a Two point Trem ...

Ceri ....Xhefri ....Andy Big Hair .... Martian ... The Nutter ... etc ...

No ...V ....

Image

No... VI

Image

As for the blanks dimensions ( before I head to the basement and bandsaw them into rough shape...
They are 1-7/8th of an inch thick , 13-3/8th of an inch wide by 21+ inches long ...

Because of the amount of time (once the bodies are shaped ) that finishing will take it is why I'm beginning the process ...

And Now, here they are cut to rough shape on the bandsaw.

#VI Front and Back

after viewing these cut to rough shape I am so tempted to use the other body blank for a Telepartster Deluxe build instead of a Bass .... 8)

That Ash grain just belongs on a Tele ...... But will have to sleep on that decision

Well, your threads are always entertaining.

Why SSS all the time?
How 'bout hard tail string through body and HH config for a change?? (P90s anyone   ).

Just asking out of curiosity.

is the blank big enough to make a jaguar/jazzmaster ? something a bit different.

also i agree witht he above. if i had the ability to make my own guitars, id be busting a nut to produce something totally unique. pickup configs that fender rarely if ever use would be my first port of call.

My thought exactly!

There's so many already existing models from Fender, why copying it over and over again?
I would also go for something extraordinary which you'll hardly find in a store.

This was my approach when I decided for this, which is just a partscaster, not made all by myself:

Well Stratopartster II and III are both HSS configuration.

II is Vintage Neck and Middle Single, Bridge is HB with single to dual coil switch, Volume and 2 TBX tone pots.... Hardtail thru body

III is also a HSS but with 2 Carvin H11 Single coils and Bridge M22 HB also with a Coil single to dual switch, 1 Vol, 1 TBX Tone. these pups are high output 22 poles. I had them in the previous incarnation and they rival any HB....

will return in a moment ....

OK .... It's been quite a day, hence my short post earlier.
My day started by running out of gas at 5:00am this morning returning home from work.
Nothing like a 3 mile walk home in 25F as daylight is breaking.. :P It was brisk.. So it wasn't until 1:00pm that I finally got some shuteye.

Now to answer the question ..... I have never considered a Jaguar, much less played one, so that wouldn't be a choice at this point since it's totally alien to me.
I would have to spend some time with a Jag ( XKE ragtop if you please  ) before I would decide if the Jag works for me....

Between the Stratopartsters IV,V and VI... I'm staying fairly traditional as far as body neck layout. A Strat really works for me and this is a collection. The next batch may take an entirely different direction.
Pup wise and electronic configuration will be according to a 70's style, a 60's style and a 50's style. The latter being the highly figured Maple body. All have to be backrouted as the wood figuring is just too nice to be hidden behind pick guards... I'm already using SCN's, Texas Specials, Vintage Mex, Carvin high output HSS and Seymour Duncan and vintage Fenders also in a HSS. I have never liked a two HB set up in a Strat, although in the Deluxe Tele that is so tempting .....

It is too early to decide on everything, meanwhile were in the middle of a Blizzard and I just finished cooking a simple meal. Oven Baked Potatoes and Chicken Breasts .... Bye ...

Today is one of those ...... Let's fix the annoying ( To Me ) idiosyncracies of these bodies.
I retraced a template taken from one of my actual Fender Strat bodies, so thatI could redress the slight inconsistencies in the blanks I cut up a week ago.

So today is 1st cutting out that template on the bandsaw, smoothing out the edges and then later retracing the outline and recutting the Strat. bodies to their correct contours....

I should also add at this point that I traced and will cut the last remaining blank as a Telecaster.
But this may be as an addition to the Telepartster thread.

On to the workshop ..... Will return.

Hi 53: just caught this thread.

Oh man oh man - that is some nice timber! One piece ash and pretty grain to go with! Wowza, what a find!

It's kinda crude to ask, but I'm just itching to know how much that wood cost? What's the unit price of each blank, once you'd cut it up? And a tasteless little bit of me is wondering how much you could resell a blank for on Ebay? Stew-Mac sell two-piece ash blanks for $113, just for example...

Go on, make our hearts beat faster with some numbers!

Anyway. I wouldn't dream of trying to tell you what to do with that lumber. You know your own mind on that just fine. I'm simply scooping up some popcorn and getting ready to sit back and watch and enjoy!

Have at it, fella! 8)

Cheers - C

PS: ...After you've had your car's fuel gauge fixed, that is.

When I see this only one thing comes to mind ....

Escher M.C.

it's different and cool but I'm not sure I'm at this point ( no puns intended ) I would be undergoing such an involved graphic image on a pick guard...

On to re-contouring the Strat. bodies.

On the bandsaw for the rcontour of the template.. I may have mentioned it elsewhere but I cut my templates from a sheet of 1/4" MDF 4'x2'. get them at Home Depot for about $4.00

Image

Once that's done it's just a few file strokes and a few sandpaper strokes to smooth out the contoured edges.... In all about an hour's worth of work...

Image

Took a few measurements and jotted them on the Template, stacked everyone up for a family photo...
The slab on the very bottom is the Tele project blank I hinted about earlier...

Image

Next was to retrace the contours on One of the Strat body blanks... I will get to this tomorrow as that is enough for today...
Suffering from a head cold which seems to be worsening in spite of vitamin and omeopathic remedies and herbal tea's ... :?

Image

Image

Hmmm.... I have to get these done for the winter and leave them to cure until May .....
I am tempted to do a translucent blonde with one similar to a Mary Kaye...
( Did I say that already elsewhere ... :?: :?  )

Ceri or Xhefri.... Any experience with applying a transparent blonde finish on bodies  :?:

Edit...02/24/13 ..... Definitely One of these is going to be a Mary Kaye translucent blonde finish but all back routed ... The other may still be as a sunburst, Cherry or Tobacco ...
Thanks Ceri ... 8)
