Hi, newbie here just purchased a 2004 "50th Anniversary" edition Fender Strat. I know of 2 distinct models that were mfg that year to commemorate 50 years (sunburst color w/ gold HW and the All Gold one)...think i'm right...However the Fender that I have is an electric blue serial #Z4022824 with a simple "50th Anniversary" Chrome neck plate on the back AND upon inspection, the neck date is a 2004 as well as the body date, however the months do not match (don’t know if they should?)

Question is: Did Fender put that on all 2004 Strats, or did they actually only put it on certain models of the Strat?
Other Question: How can one "authenticate" a real strat other than Serial #'s?
Thanks in advance for any information!

The necks and bodies were probably manufactured at different times that year. If you had a neck stamped 2002 and the body was a 2004 I would raise an alarm but, considering guitars go by the year they were made a neck made in lets say Jan. 2004 and a body in July 2004 and then they were both put together in September 2004 at the end of the day you have a 2004 American strat. I had an american deluxe strat that was made in 2000 that had different months stamped on them.

Thanks, thats great information. Makes me feel better. BTW they were only a month apart May/June.

Now anyone know about the "usage" of the 50th Anniversary Neck Plates? Did they put them on all 2004 Strats?

There were four models of 2004 50th anniversary strats:

1. Custom shop - 2-color sb
2. American Deluxe - 2-color sb
3. American - 2 color sb
4 MIM "all gold"

No other models of 2004 50th anniversary were manufacturered.

You guys (and girls) are great, thanks for the information. I will assume that the 50th anniversary chrome neck badge was just a custom add on, although technically it was manufactured during the 50th anniversary year.

Other than the 4 Strats specifically manufactured for the 50th, I presume Fender did not put those badges on all 2004 Strats and probably was not recognized as such from the factory??

It's my understanding (and I think it's been mentioned in here before) that all American-manufactured Stratocasters in 2004 have the 50th Anniversary neckplate on the back, instead of the usual Corona, CA. The 2 color sunburst models were Custom Shop exact copies, or something like that, and all had the original model's maple neck.
Your guitar is probably stock as shipped from the Corona factory.
