My 2 Cents.

I don't think the target market for Fender's Custom Shop guitars is the buyer looking for best "value for money", Fender has multitudes of other models that perfectly fit that type of customer. The Custom Shop guitars are more suited to someone who wants that special guitar, maybe one that's been built by a more highly skilled individual, or a small team of them, and is quite happy to pay for it, that customer isn't really chasing "value for money" per se.

Fender has never been one to underestimate the power Mojo has over many people and to those people any differences, real or imagined are further down their list of priorities they just want what they want and will pay the premium.

Personally I think my Vintage 62 Hot Rod is as good as a Custom Shop, I compared it to several and to me it was right in my sweet spot of "my" perceived "value".

Would Jeff Healey have sounded or played any better if he used Custom Shop Strats instead of his Squiers?

Probably not!
