Hello all,
New to the guitar scene and need a little advice / information. I just purchased a MIJ stratocaster serial # E697395, I come up with it being from 1984 - 1987. Is that correct? It also has a Kahler Tremolo that says Made in USA, it looks stock but curious to everyones opinion. It is in really good condition, trying to post pictures but having difficulty. Any idea of what it might be worth? Will try to get some pictures up later. Thanks all in advance and glad to have stumpled on this site, it's a great resource for a newbie like myself.
Thanks,
Jason

I'm not really sure but everything screams Fender Contemporary Strat to me.
I just have never seen such a bridge on the contemporaries. Usually they're Schaller System I, II or III.
Maybe somebody else knows more?

Thanks for the pics! Nice axe!!

Thanks Smokin appreciate the insight. What is the "Contemporary " line. Do the serial #s add up to 1984 - 1987? Any idea of what she's worth?

seems like it to me. not sure if that was a classic year for MIJ strats.

the trem is about right. slightly diff than my US one.

Yes, time frame is ok.
I used to have one from 1984.
Bought and sold it used for something around 450 Euros (Germany!!). Don't remember correctly.

Nice guitars but I didn't like the Schaller System. Yours looks much more comfortable.

Wiki ist quite often NOT really the holy grail of information sites but here you find som info. Dunno if it is complete, though:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Con ... ster_Japan

This Site is great for more info on the Schaller trems, even though I don't agree with the author's opinion about them being the best systems ever made but that's purely a matter of taste and personal preferences:

Quote taken from the second link (stratconnection.com):

> There were also USA Contemporary Stratocasters and Telecasters which were

> Custom Shop in the mid-1990s.

I would assume that the Schaller System on yours was exchanged for a trem from a US model?

Your serial number is not valid for the US, it's a made in Japan serial for sure.
1984 - 1987

Dunno where you are.
In Germany they're something around 450 Euros = approx 500 US$ but they're generally more expensive in Germany.

Usually, if someone says 500 US$ here in the forum it is 500 Euros in Germany.
Judging by that observation done by myself over the last months after registering here, I would assume those contemporaries to be about 450 US$ in the USA.

American members can surely give you more accurate figures.

rsj450 - Fender wound up using that bridge on these guitars for about a year or so; that's a Kahler 2500 series. They used it once they stopped using the Schaller-made Fender System 1 trem units - but they still used the Schaller string lock that is on your guitar. I believe this bridge was only used in 1987; in 1988 they went to the Kahler Spyder like the one shown by darkogav (but on the 1988/89s it wasn't recessed like his and they were clearly marked "Made in Japan").

darkogav - I would be willing to bet that your Strat doesn't have a "Made in USA" on the headstock and that it only has a contoured-style neck plate that says "Fender USA".
