By simply ignoring it! Don't look at it and it will go away! I promise!

You want a more real answer. Ash provides some nice grain which is perfect for translucent or burst finishes.

Does that help?

I refer more to the sound, the pro and cons of each timber.

Personally I love the way ash looks. Alder is agreat wood but often the grain is a lot finer. Some of my nicest guitars have an ash cap on alder. If your wondering about tone wood, that is a much debated subject and I think a lot of us on here have become cynical to the question. Too many strong opinions that just end up in circles. I would rather go for the cedar pizzas with fir toppings!

Basically, there is no answer. You like ash, go with it. But alder is fine too. :D

I'm partial to a nice firm ash.

To put it easy while trying to stay patient:

Ash = more "woody" kind of sound, more "airy", a little brighter sounding.

Alder = more "solid" sounding, warmer tone, mellower but also "meatier"

It's a matter of taste. I have both, I like both and both suit every style of music.

If you wonder about the responses you got: don't feel offended but people like to talk in complete sentences. Nobody wants to GUESS what you want to know.
Everybody's happy to help but you must formulate your question correctly.

Your post is like asking: red or blue? Mary or Joe? Striped or squared??

Nobody has a clue to what I'm referring to in these questions, right?

Personally tone woods make less of a difference when you add more gain and effects... Pickups and scale length are more important to me...

Once you add lots of these two, who can tell any difference?

+1 This has been discussed at great lengths on this forum. But some urban legends never die.
