A few months ago Doc told us that Clapton preferred the Laces for their throaty grind while playing slide with a bottleneck. But there were exceptions.

On the Back Home world tours in 2006/2007 he played his slide repertoire using a VN-equipped Blackie. He also used Crash-1 during the Brands Hatch gig in 2002 to perform a sizzling slide guitar solo on AFL's Gin House.

Update: Had removed the reference picture because it was too big. Fender should add an hsimg function to resize big pictures automatically.

Always wanted to try Laces in a passive circuit, just never came around to do so (or was too lazy to rip'em out and put them into another of my strats just for testing).

You'll need to find yourself a string of Strat Plus's. They were passive and originally fitted with Gold Lace Sensors.

If I happen to stumble across one, I'll play it!
Thanx for the suggestion.

Hmm, my experience is exactly the opposite; my old Lace equipped Clapton is much brighter and 'glassier' sounding than my newer model with the VN's, which to my ear sounds a tad mellow. If you want to compare the pickups in the hands of Clapton himself try to find the DVD "Live at Budokan". Throughout the show he plays a model equipped with VN's, but for the encore a Gold Leaf with Lace Sensors is brought out. The Lace equipped Gold Leaf sounds brighter, louder, more agresive overall. I'm with the Doc in a preference for the Lace's.

Yeah, i personally always though lace sounded very bright and glassy. Very 80s. If you ever pickup soundtrack to Lethal Weapon I, EC did it, and it has lots of clean sounds, its a good example of the sound.

Yeah. That's the one. Though there were some other more slow tempo tunes which might be a better example. it was a hip soundtrack for its times and has aged moderately well. Much much better than some other soundtracks from the era.

Mike Rutherford's go to guitar is a pewter Strat Plus and, of course there's Thom Yorke's Tele Plus. That's a blue lace at the neck and a red dually at the bridge.

Thom Yorke uses mainly a natural Telecaster with a Strat neck, dual humbuckers and a top-mounted jack, a black Tele Deluxe and a natural Thinline with Wide Ranges.

The Tele Plus you're talking about belongs to Jonny Greenwood.

There's a DiMarzio ToneZone humbucker in the bridge position. The SCNs are paired in parallel with the humbucker.

The Gold Leaf you're talking about was given to EC by one of his fans. The golden foil texture on this is completely different than the original "EC-1"!

The Gold Leaf played in that show was owned by a fan who only asked EC to play it. To my recollection the instrument remained in the possession of the fan.

If you like Eric's film music I can highly recommend the album Rush. IMHO one of his best studio recordings overall.

There's also the Edge Of Darkness with the late Michael Kamen.

Here's a video showing the two artists performing the main theme movie at the RAH in the early nineties (24 Nights):

The album contains guitar synthesizer parts on some tracks.

Edge Of Darkness was the last synthesizer album for Eric as he stopped using guitar synths in late 1985.
