You'd better buy it quick- or I will!!

Nice looking guitar. I'm a fan of solid color pickguards. The regular low output p/u's in my strat are great, and I love the way they sound, but I also really want Texas Specials w/the greasebucket circuit.

I have owned a Special since early last year and love it. I bought it primarily because of how great the neck felt, but love how the Texas Special sound.

Thanks Lenny... BUT BUYER BEWARE:

Guitar Center and several other online retail sites have mis-specified this guitar! They list the guitar as having same specs as the "standard" American Specials. This is incorrect. According to Fender, the Factory Special Run American Specials differ in two ways:

1. Hand-stained finish instead of polyurethane lacquer.

2. The FSR has Custom Shop Fat 50's pups (like the new American Standards) instead of Custom Shop Texas Specials.

I spent all day yesterday in amazement at how different the sound was from my "Texas Specials" in my new FSR American Special than my old MIM Lone Star... now I know the difference is because they are entirely different pups!

Guitar Center and most other major Fender retailers are listing the FSR AS as including Texas Specials and I could see how this error could really piss someone off who was buying the axe especially for the Texas Specials. I love the sound personally, but I am still miffed that, as a novice, I would have run around forever talking about the "Texas Special" pups in my strat when it doesn't and never did have them!

On the other hand... for those wanting the look and discounted price of an American Special but love the Fat 50s that are now standard in the more expensive strats, well here you go!

American Special and Highway ones have a superior pickup route in them that adds to thier great tone.
The single coil routes help add to the bodies sonic stability, this will intensify at higher volumes, much like a 70s body.

This is why I like them so much.
I would rather have the two point trem but a blade runner works with locking tuners nice.

That seems strange that GC would "misrepresent" this configuration since, according to the Fender website (http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... -products/), FSR's are built to a dealers specs, in this case, GC's specs and therefore, they should not only know, but advertise, to their advantage, the unique configuration and it is also relevant to their selling price.

I don't know what to make of it... I did note that a set of Custom Shop Texas Specials and a set of Fat 50's would cost the same if bought new at GC. I do not think one is inferior to the other but that they suit different tastes.

Here's a thought for you pros out there... would Fat 50's be more well suited than Texas Specials for an American Special that was hand-stained rather than gloss urethane?

Also, I do not think the FSR hand-stained American Special is exclusive to GC... many online music stores are advertising them... I notice that Anderton's in England sells them and does spec the guitar as having American Standard pups (which as of March 2012 are Fat 50's.)
