What Dimarzios did you use I have The Injecter Neck and the Area 61 and they are very straty.

I would have to look that up. I did this like more than 10 or 15 years ago. They look like this http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/product_pickup/dp187w.jpg

I checked my strat today and I actually had a change to clean it up a bit.

They were actually seymour duncans stacked humbuckers. (image below.) I do have DiMarzio fastracks which i put into a valley arts around the same time, that's why i thought they were Dimarzios. But still, the SD's completely changed the strat sound.

Well, I guess now is a good time as any to throw my two cents in.

In my Fratocaster, I originally had three single coil, calibrated Duncans. They sounded great, I loved them but my house wiring was really messing with them. Yes, I tried the usual remedial actions but to no avail. It seems to be more of a 'neighorhood' thing than my particular abode. No, I won't pack the guitar with shielding as it serves no constructive purpose (but I digress). Consequently, I was forced to go humbucking.

Being a Strat enthusiast for closing in on 50 years now, I had to look for a humbucking, single slot design of pickups which would still look and retain the sound of a superior Strat single coil, complete with all the necessary calibration, of course. Now when I say, "calibrated", I mean an even output and traditional frequency response, one to and with the other(s) and having the ability to set the amp where all sound great without compromise. Or to put it another way, balls, bells and everything in between; you know, "calibrated".

Only Alnico magnets can get that true Strat sound. I don't care what anyone says and as far as humbucking Strat designs go where keeping faithful to the tonality of a superior single coil Strat pickup, there's only two manufacturers who truly have this down. Namely, Kinman and DiMarzio. I've experienced all the applicable Strat pickups of both brands. I'm aware that the general consensus of opinion proclaims DiMarzios as being 95% to that of Kinmans in this vein. Personally, I feel DiMarzios have the edge. Notwithstanding, a tweak of the amp will get the albeit, debatable 5%. Couple this with the fact that the general consensus of opinion which including myself, feels Kinmans are way too costly.

The bottom line: For my idea of a perfectly 'calibrated' trio of Strat pickups, these are the trio of DiMarzio pickups I've found to be the best combination: For the neck, an Area 67, for the middle, a 54 Pro and for the bridge, an Injector Neck model (yes, Neck model) . Read up on the specs of all three, DiMarzio is very accurate with this. Also, listen to some sound samples, you just might agree.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

I agree with the above. The DiMarios in my Valley arts seemed to have taken an mediocre sounding instrument and made it sound amazing. Not so the case with the SD's in my strat. Now if I could only remember where I put my single coils i would put them back and try them on the strat again to see how they sound these days. Back in the day what I was replacing them grunge and *heavy* sounds were all the rage. No so the case anymore.

On that note, I have to say, now that I am shopping around for the *right* Strat, Fender used to put so much more hardware into a Strat than they do these days. It must have cost Fender a lot more to build one. The one I have is from 88/89 and just comparing the amount of hardware in it compared to a Deluxe model I am sort of looking at now.

On that note also, I was considering of getting a American Special in the color I want any adding $300 in DiMarzios, however, there is absolutely no comparison what so ever between the feel or build quality between the Special and a Standard or Deluxe. A Special in my end of the woods goes for $899 and plus $300 for better pickups would place it into the Standard and a Deluxe on sale price points.

For me the best pickup of the Fender, is Custom Shop Texas Special.

But there are better options like Dimarzio, Seymour Duncan, Franlin, 4season, Suhr, Bare Knucle, Emg.

The Dimarzio Virtual Vintage 54 pro, Virtual Vintage Blues, Virtual Vintage Blues 3, Virtual solo. They keep the Fender sound, but also more modern, multifaceted and can give you much more, without losing Fender tone.
