I haven't been on here in a while so forgive me if this has already been discussed but I just got the news today about the Custom Shop's upcoming "Brownie" clone.......only 100 to be made. Anybody have any clue what the price of these guitars will be? Does anybody recall what they charged for the "Blackie" replica?

I'd love to have one but I have a feeling the price won't be anything close to affordable for me.

I'm trying to remember, but I'm sure they will all be more than $5K.

To tell you the truth I'm not sure I understand the whole point. This is a stock insturment with EC's wear. I think it's beautiful, but worth it. It does however remind me how much I love playing my 50th Anniv. Am Series Strat (which only came in 2-color cunburst).

I thought the Blackie one sold for about $17,000, could of been a little more though.

I got a Guitar Center ad and it talks about the Crossroads Festival and has pic of Clapton with a brownie strat, and had a url of guitarcenter.com/clapton, but I went there and it just has stuff about the blackie strat. I didn't get to look the ad over too much yet, but I think they were giving away brownie strat, they had 3 prize packages, a Gibson one, a Fender one, and a Martin one. I'll look it over better when I get home tonight.

Hello!

Is that photo you're talking about?

Here's my thought how the "signature" Brownie* (with the current EC specs) would look:

Image

Of course this is just a personal point of view as we must have Eric's authorization first before the dream become a reality.

*Not to be confused with the T-Mobile guitar.

You could buy the older Buddy Guy Strat (a EC Strat that came in 2-color-sunburst).

Follow this discussion on the Eldred Forum. There's been quite a bit of chat already.

$25K MSRP at Guitar Centers on Black Friday 2006.

For all intents and purposes, the new American Vintage Series '56 Stratocaster is the equivalent of an NOS version of 'Brownie'. If I've got my history correct, Clapton purchased it used at the get go. TK's already done a heavy relic version of what you see above spec'd out as suggested by Chromeface. I saw it in the Platinum Room at the Guitar Center in Carle Place NY about three years ago. It lacked the artist signature because it was not an authorized finish....but it was a Clapton Stratocaster all the same. Somebody out there's got it, I'm sure.

The Custom Shop will certainly build a Clapton Strat for you, finished as above. You'll just have to be satisfied to have it unsigned. In that Eric's personal stage guitars no longer have his signature on them it should be no prob-lem mon!! Personally, I would specify vintage soft body contours and a deep '57 waist relief to put it in the ball park. It's the one structual characteristic the original signature series guitar lacks.

Yeah the Fender page for the guitar said he purchased it in 1967 when he was with Cream.

If only 100 are destined to be made , they certainly will not be available for just $5,000. In any case this will probably go the way of the Blackie Series. Sold Out before they had even left the CS, I was looking at one a few weeks back at Empire Guitars, that sold for about $22,000 .....

Anyone who wants a "signature" Brownie will probably chose the Masterbuilt route.

So lets say the Clapton strat is going to go for like $25,000, and you had that kind of money for a guitar, would you get the Clapton strat, or would you use that money for a real vintage strat?
