I have a 1995 American Standard Strat in a very bright blue and I am trying to find out for certain what the color was called. I have been told it's "Chrome Blue" but I honestly don't think Chrome Blue was ever introduced until much later than 95, like maybe not even until the American Standard became the American Series in 2000.

Is there anywhere I can find a list of what colors were offered in specific years on the American Standard? I don't just mean a random list of a zillion colors Fender made over the years, but specifically what colors were offered during what years. There seems like so much misinformation out there it's almost impossible to determine fact from fiction. I'm hoping someone can provide a list of Fender colors from 1995. Here is a photo of the Strat in question:

I personally think it's Aquamarine not Chrome Blue, but I'm not sure if that color was offered in '95 either. I had a 2002 Strat in that color and was told at the time that it was a 2 year only color... I don't know now if that was correct information or not. Whatever color it is, it seems to be quite rare to find in 1995.

Check with Fender Customer service. Give them the serial number and should have the answer you're looking for.

Or take your best guess here.

I had a telecaster that looked that color, and I was told it was called electric blue, but I don't know if that was the official color.

I did e-mail Fender with my serial number but got an automated response saying they were very backed up and that inquires about guitar specifics, colors, etc. were considered low priority... Hoping i eventually get a response, but from what I've seen posted here, it seems they don't actually give you the specific color of the guitar in question, but rather a list of specs of the entire American Standard series from 87-2000, with a list of all the colors from the various years... Can they actually tell you the exact specs/color of a specific serial number, or just tell you that you have a 95 American Standard? Maybe I'm wrong, but from what I've seen the info they can provide isn't 100% specific to that particular guitar anyhow.

I remember the old Fender Frontline magazines used to list all the available colors of each model, the same way I could get a list of all the available colors for a 2012 American Standard today. This is what I've been trying to find. Wish i would have saved all those old freebie magazines! They'd be a treasure trove of info today!

Electric blue sounds about right. Thing is, throughout the 90's there was a vast array of colours. I have never seen this colour before on an American standard however, only on a Strat Plus, this may be a rarity to say the least.

Can you give some shots of the front of the guitar and headstock?

Thanks for the input everyone. After doing some more extensive research and good old fashioned digging myself, I now believe the color of my 95 Strat is indeed (87 Electric Blue). From all factory records and publications I could find from 1995, this was the only blue offered on American Standard in 95, and while it bears a slight resemblance to "chrome blue", it is not. Chrome Blue did not exist in 95, and was actually quite different from electric blue in that it used a very bright (almost "chrome-like") silver base with a translucent blue topcoat. Electric blue was simply a bright metallic blue. Originally i thought it may be Aquamarine, but that color was also not available in '95, and actually appears to first be offered around 1999, as also noted by another post above.

While its true Fender color charts and lists are not always 100% accurate, it's not as impossible to research correct factory fender colors as you may think. I believe in this case that this is without a doubt a factory painted 1995 American Standard in code 87 "Electric Blue"...it's listed right in the available colors for American Standards that year (a rather short list as always) and while there were indeed many blues used by Fender, it was the only blue available on the USA standard model. I agree that it is seemingly pretty rare, at least 18 years after it was produced... but was a standard factory offered color for that year.

Yeppers, this color is called Electric Blue. I do not have the color code on this color but have seen it on a few Strat Plus' around 1993-1996. See pict below:

It's code 87 in the 1995 Catalog.

Just for reference, in case anyone in the future ever wants to compare... Here is a direct comparison between "Chrome Blue" and "Electric Blue". The Electric Blue is a 1995 and the Chrome Blue is a 2003. Both are in new/unfaded condition, and as you can see... it would be very easy to confuse the colors if you are not intimately familiar with both. The Chrome Blue is the lighter/brighter one, with a "candy" type finish resulting from a very bright, chrome-like silver basecoat under a translucent blue. (Hence the name "Chrome Blue") The '95 "Electric Blue" (code 87) is also a very bold, bright blue, but seems to be an opaque color, with a fine metallic.

Both colors are very bold, and also both pretty unique and not often seen. Take a look!

That is really great that yo can share those. I love it when colors can be defined by a clear example. Thanks for sharing!

Me too... that's why I decided to dig them both out together to compare.. Was actually kinda curious myself, because when they are not side by side it would actually be quite easy to confuse the 2. When they are side by side it's very obvious they are 2 very different colors. If it wasn't so cold out I'd take them outside for some natural light shots, as I think the differences would be even more apparent.

I really would like to see someone put together a database or website showing all of the available colors for American Standard for each year... This could be done if anyone had any of the old yearly Frontline catalogs, as they always showed a list of colors for each year, along with the color code for each. I realize there were exceptions, and colors that crossed over and/or didn't make the "official" color lists, but it would at least make life much easier when trying to determine what color you have. I used to have all of those old books and tossed them away not realizing how valuable the info would be 15-20 years later. It would be cool to know things like what year Electric Blue was first made officially available, what year it was no longer listed as a regular color option, when Chrome Red and Chrome Blue were introduced, etc. I guess I'm just a geek with that kinda stuff, and probably not too many people even really care... but I'd love to have the info available.

I just noticed that Candy Cola, Charcoal Frost and Blizzard Pearl are no longer offered on the American Standard for 2013, while a new metallic red and blue are being introduced... Undoubtedly these colors will also eventually be confused with their earlier somewhat similar counterparts too. I have a Candy Cola 2008 and it's similar to my 1991 Midnight Wine, and also similar to Candy Apple Red as well as the Chrome Red from the early 2000's... I have examples of all but C.A.R. here and will eventually put them together for another group shot to show the similarities/differences between those colors as well. Interesting stuff for sure! (At least to me!)

I kind of tried to do this for the 1990's Strat Plus series. I have almost every color pictured that was offered, and many of those colors were also used on the American Standard series.

Blizzard Pearl is no longer a colour option for 2013. It was replaced by Jade Pearl Metallic yesteryar.

Charcoal Frost and Candy Cola are still available for the SSS version at the moment, the products page has not been updated yet.
