Could you contour the heel of a non-countered heel fender? As far as I can tell the only difference on the different back plate is that one of the screws has been moved.

Does that mean I could fill the screw hole, redrill it for the contoured heel plate and then shape the heel?

Not something I'm planning on doing but it'd be nice to know if it'd be possible, anyway :)

Cheers,

-Stu.

Shorter neck bolts would be needed too.

But its possible? I'm intruiged by the idea of using my guitar as long term 'project' guitar and I'm just meditating over the myriad of possibilities :)

I would experimant on a less expensive guitar; maybe a squire or affinity or better yet one of those Costco Stars... perfect my method THEN proceed on a higher grade axe. That way if it goes bad you.ve not lost a great deal but still learned from it for the next effort. :)

Might cost some $$$ to get it refinished??? unless you don't care how it looks. I have a contoured heeled strat and I can't say I get too excited about that feature... I'd leave it be if you want my .02.

Wouldn't care about a refinish. Its not like I abuse my axes but I wouldn't care about exposed wood, and I know I wouldn't refinish the heel.

Anyway, cheers :)

Actually, now that you mention it... I was just playing for a while on the dusty end and realized after some time that the heel was really chewing into my hand... I guess I don't know a good thing when I've got it... typical me!

Go for it. I guess I'd get the plate first and then trace its' position after bolting in the three matching neck mounting screws and go from there with the new bolt hole and shaping the body. Good luck!
