Bought an HSS American Deluxe Strat back in '07. Would you consider the newest version an upgrade, downgrade, or a "horizontal move"?

I've been very happy with the '06, but I'm curious about the new noiseless pups (versus the older samarium cobalts), and I've always wanted to try a conical/compound radius fretboard.

Just another gimmick to get you to trade up. The only brilliant move Fender has done was to finally scrap the crappy pickups in the American Standard...

I don't think the compound radius fretboard is a gimmick. I like it quite a bit. Enough that if I bought another Strat, I'd prefer one with it rather than without.

Myself I like the SCNs much better then the N3s (don't get me wrong the N3s are ok, but I think the SCNs eat them up). I had no troubles with the 9.5 rad. frets so the comp. rad. I have no opinion on (its just something that's there )
