Hey peeps, I have an opportunity to buy a '92 Korean Strat, serial number CN219422 or CN219822( couldn't tell if it was an 8 or 4 from the picture). I can't seem to find any info on these and understand that there's not much out there to be had. I want to know if anyone has one and what they think of it. I have a '95 Mexican and love it. I've owned it for over 15 years. It plays great and sounds great. Now, what can I expect from the Korean Strat?

I've played a MIK Light Ash Strat a couple of years ago and was impressed how good it sounds.

I will be trying it out before I buy it, for sure. It's had new fender tuners put on and looks to be in excellent shape. I know this means nothing, but I am curious to hear and feel how it plays. Anyone know about the quality of the electronics in these guitars? Are they comparable to any other Strat make?

Also, what is a fair asking price, and furthermore, what is a fair offer?

MIK are great guitars... Why else would PRS and other brands use that same factory to produce their import models?

I've got mixed feelings on the Korean models. I had an early 90's Korean Squier Strat for a brief period of time that was.....well.....junk. The body wasn't even a good laminate, it was pretty poor plywood, the hardware was pretty bad and the pups were just terrible. I ended up using it for a practice piece while testing finishes, then traded it at a guitar show for an Applause acoustic/electric (which I still have). Since I got that particular Squier in trade for a distortion pedal, I still made out.

Now that said, I just got a Korean made Lite Ash Strat in trade for the Lite Ash Tele I picked up a while back and that Strat's pretty sweet. I'm sure half the sound is just those Duncans, but yea...very nice tone indeed. This one has the natural finish and yea, it's a looker....very nice one piece body. The jury is still out on the neck...it's supposed to be a "C" shape like my Mexicans but, it just don't feel quite the same. Not bad by any means and very playable, but this one is just a bit heavier and almost feels like a heavy C with just a hint of soft V and I've never really cared for the V's. A taste thing more than anything else really...but my Mexi's are just much nicer in my hand. Also gotta say that the bridge surprised me too...at first glance it looks like the same 2 point they use on the Squier Standards (the knock off of the American Standards), but the saddles are different and what's more, it has a brass trem block...I'll be doing a separate post on that a bit later. In any case, I haven't torn her down yet to give her a full inspection, but so far I'm pretty impressed. Then again, the Lite Ash series did originally retail for $599 so...

Anyways, as others have said...play it before you buy and let your ears and hands decide. After all, you're the one who's gonna be playing it :-)
